2022/23 Sean Dyche

I think he is a good fit for where we are and what we have.

I see him as having the character for the fight, he knows exactly what he is coming into and seems to be the type of guy that relishes the challenge, willing to 'accept' the situation. Focusing solely on how to get the best out of the players we have (with maybe a couple of new signings).

If we need 'ugly' football then so be it.

I wonder if we see McNeil playing too. He'll know the system inside out, but IIRC he had a bit of a falling out with Dyche?

Let’s be honest if Dyche had gone to Southampton or Leeds then a load of the usual suspects on here would be pooing their pants now.

He’ll suit the players we have. We’re not set up for five at the back at all. I know every manager we have goes to it (mainly because of the weakness at right back with Coleman) but a back 4 of Patterson Tarkowski Mina/Coady Mykolenko coached properly is not in my book going to be leaking as many goals as their counterparts at Southampton Leeds Bournemouth

He’ll sort out this unbalanced midfield we have where neither Onana or Gueye know if they’re sitting or pushing up and Iwobi is appearing a left wing back, number 10 and wide right all in the same game. It will be a stable midfield with defined roles and he’s got players with pace power and height in there.

He needs more upfront no doubt about it.

He’s got good height through the team for set pieces and a good keeper.

The ingredients are there for a competent manager to keep us up IF we back him with the required forward players in the next few days.

At wing back under Lampard yes.

I seem to remember him being one of our better players in the run in last season in a flat back 4. He’s already shown he’s not rubbish and can defend very well in the right system.
I expect our back 4 will become very solid but don't expect that they will be required to be attacking. Playing within their limitations and not exposing them will probably do wonders for them.

I disagree with that. They were one nil up and cruising if I remember and we had a 5 minute purple patch and scored 3 goals, two of them on the counter. I remember coming away thinking we were out played for most of the game and got a bit lucky

Yep, I remember that game. I said on here at Half - time that it was the first time I had seen a Burnley side actually play football, we made them look like Barca at times.

Attacking full backs have only ever worked at a handful of top teams with unbelievable players in those positions.

The majority of clubs, including ours, would be far better just putting solid full backs or centrebacks in those positions, defending properly and passing to attacking players instead of going forward.

lol

TBH, if there's one player he sidelines here you want it to be McNeil right now.

Time will tell, but he might just have a role to play.

We will play high percentage canrage % pomo football mate, crosses, counters etc - this season anyway.

He has a net spend of about 5 million in 5 PL season with Burnely via a European campaign he qualified for, thats impressive.

Had a look at some of the players he signed on a budget, Defour, Cornet, Pope, JT, Weighorst, Nathan Collins - all of whom walk into our team and made 100 + million for Burnley - we need a bit of this.

Fantastic appointment this
Don't be ridiculous. An awful appointment but that is the position we are in. Good luck to him if he can keep this terrible squad up for the next 2 seasons. Strap on your helmets and get ready for the ride. If he pulls off a win or a draw at Analfield I will of course change my opinion and praise him as an an amazing appointment.
