There are loads of good managers abroad we could have looked at, many of whom were out of work. We always go down the 'PL experience' route when it comes to managers and it’s never really worked out yet for us.
I agree there is loads of foreign managers with good records. Still no manager in world football, can teach mid 20 year old forwards with loads of experience how to score. We first thought that under Lampard we wasn’t creating enough chances in a game, that is was one of the reasons why we wasn’t scoring enough. Them dyche comes in and in 5 games we have loads of chances. Yet we still don’t score, the reason is the forwards are crap and midfields don’t contribute either. Better manager than dyche could maybe have us creating more chances or being more solid. But end of the day the players just lack quality. That’s the reason we are where we are. Will also be the reason we likely go down unless a miracle happens.

I don't have a problem with how he's set the team up, to be honest. He's at least got them trying to press properly and supporting each other, which is progress.

If we had any kind of talent up front, it wouldn't be that bad to watch. Not amazing, but there are worse things to watch in football than players competing for loose balls and trying to create chances from the little skirmishes that result. The problem is we don't really have anyone that can play a decisive pass or shoot properly when we get a favourable situation.

With Gray, it's simple: he's not playing because he doesn't really do anything when he hasn't got the ball. If Dyche can get him to work back and press forwards, he'd definitely be an asset, because he's one of the few players in the squad that can actually shoot. Hopefully he has a moment of realisation, like some players do at his age, and embraces that side of the game.

Just as a side note, thinking about it, we are really, really struggling for players that can shoot, aren't we. Maybe Gray, Townsend, McNeil, possibly Garner that can strike a ball properly? That is horrific.

If he was brought in instead of Lampard we wouldn't be near the relegation zone now.
Not sure about that. Dyche doesn't have a working system without a big man up top and our big man is hurt a lot. Unless you're blaming Lampard for the Calvert-Lewin injuries I can't really see how Dyche is getting a side to score enough.

I think Dyche is better than Lampard generally speaking but he probably isn't right for us right now. He's only got one way to attack that can work even ok and we don't have the tools for the most part.

How's that? Would he have produced a striker and a creative player out of thin air?

5 games in
2 goals scored
8 goals conceded

No one gets a tune out of any football team without enough options up top to mix things up.
It would be cool if at some point we tried mixing it up though. The team is actually perfectly fine in a lot of areas right now. We aren't good in attack but maybe we could try some different things in attack and see what happens?

This is the thing though we do have a few guys who can do a few things in attack. None of them are going to be playing for Real Madrid but maybe you try to put Gray and Iwobi in better places and sacrifice a bit of the defensive side to try and score some? You've said McNeil can shoot and I agree so maybe put him on the other side where he'll luck into a few positions to shoot on his strong foot?

It just feels like we're not really trying anything and then wondering why nothing is working. This attack is very similar to the one Lampard was using. That was one of my fears with Dyche, that Lampard was just doing a really bad impression and even the better version wouldn't actually be any good.

Perhaps not last night, but I'd say under Dyche we've been playing better in many aspects of the game, but the lack of goals feels almost unfixable.

Iwobi is so bad it hurts.

I'd suggest trying! I agree we're a lot better and now he needs to experiment with how we can find ways to create chances and score. Unfortunately this is not something he has ever done.

I definitely think it's worth keeping him for the start of next season. We have a nucleus of young players and if we can add a forward or 2 I don't see any reason why we can't come back up. Next season could be:
Pickford
Patterson Tarkowski Branthwaite Mykolenko
New player Garner Onana McNeil. New player New player

Sell Iwobi, Keane, DCL, Maupay, Holgate, Gray etc

Keep Godfrey and Simms and promote some of the other young players.

We might have to sell Onana and keep Gana to balance the books but I don't think that squad is incapable of promotion if we can get some goals in
