The management team have all the fitness data and know how much every player has got in their tank, they also know of their stamina and recovery powers after sprints etc. Who on the bench (except Maupey) would you have brought on and for who? bearing in mind there is a considerable drop in quality with the subs giving them 20+ minutes would of been a very risky call. I’m genuinely intrigued what you would have done?
As I stated in previous posts, I get here isn’t an abundance of quality on the bench. If garner is on the bench then he is deemed fit to play. Holgate could have gone into that holding role. No ideal but he’s not a complete waste of space and could have provided some energy.

All that data and nobody in the management team could see Gray and Doucoure were knackered?

They made three subs, fresh players. Upped the tempo and we stayed static hoping we’d see it through.

Switching Keane and Coady isn't a tactical tweak. Gray playing up top instead of Maupay gave us a slightly different style but the way of playing didn't really change. He pulled wide a couple of times but it wasn't a feature or something we were trying to do. He was mostly just a faster Maupay. And it didn't really work the same as Maupay hasn't.

We're playing the same way every game and it isn't working every game. Try something else.
We definitely didn't play the same as previous weeks there was more an emphasis to make marauding breaks than in the past we were just foiled by lack of clinical attacking and proper substitutes which maybe Dysche didnt feel confident about. But we were actually able to stitch together passes that were played on the ground. Our biggest vulnerability is players making crucial goal creating errors, otherwise I thought we were solid against forest

I don't read articles anymore since it's just filled with nonsense buzzwords trying to push imaginary agendas by putting everyone into a category. Journalistic integrity has been long gone from every aspect of life for a long time.
Extremely well put and could not agree with you more; but it's an interesting question to ask. If the final twelve games are all very functional and boring but we grind out enough points to survive, how many fans would be happy sitting through another year or two of the same?

Big Sam ball was largely turgid to endure and most of the fanbase wanted him gone asap, so would it be the same for Dyche? Only a few years ago we were dreaming of regular European football, now we're just hoping not to be relegated. If we survive, I wonder how many would want to stick with functional Dycheball vs a Bielsa-type which could be very entertaining to watch.

What this club is crying out for is stability.

If, and at the moment it is a very big if, we stay up Dyche HAS to stay. Sacking him for a volatile manager like Bielsa is precisely the sort of bananas decision that would get us back in this mess yet again further down the line.

It's not pretty, but heading into Bramley Moore we need a stable outfit. Re-establish ourselves as a solid PL team that pushes for Europe (very doable under Dyche IMO) and then think about where we go from there down the road.

We've had breaks in every game. We've not turned them into actual chances in every game. This is because the same players are breaking from the same positions.

It's not enough to always blame the attackers for not being clinical. Lampard did this for his entire spell and one day we all woke up. Let's not do the same thing here.

That's really my point: if it was drab, functional football every week would we sacrifice entertainment just to exist and plod along in the Prem?

New stadium or not we are a long way from being a team that can challenge for Europe (ok Dyche did it once in about a decade with Burnley hoofball but that's an anomaly not the rule). Look at the likes of Brentford or Brighton or Fulham currently eyeing a European push, they're more progressive and adventerous on the pitch than we are. Dyche is very much a 'utilize what you've got' type manager. Not sure you can "functional football" your way to Europe in the modern Prem any more.

Who knows how it would go with Bielsa. Could finish 8th, could finish 18th, but Bielsaball would be a fun watch one way or the other, if only to see big Micky Keggers running 20 miles a match to avoid being yelled at in Argentinian by a bloke sitting on a bucket.

Theres clearly been a greater degree of cohesion the liverpool and arsenal away being the exceptions with Dysche over Lampard but other than gray (1 season) and maupay who is being placed in a system and with the type players who are completely alien to him have never scored more than five goals a season what are you expecting? I agree Lampard didn't do enough but the attacking limitations present in our squad even ones able to create chances are truly a challenging puzzle to remedy

Yes they are a tough puzzle so that's why I'd like to see him try fitting the pieces together differently when the current configuration is not working.

Not really, we just have to use every chance and half chance to get the ball forward into the final third and we will get an opening. We still go sideways and backwards far too much at times.

I'd actually love for him to just go full on launching the ball. Either that or actually work toward a better setup along the ground. What we're doing right now is a useless middle.

You’re staying up with Dyche, no problem. Great support from you yesterday - one of the best groups of away fans we’ve had this season
Thanks for posting on here. Wish I could share your optimisin, as without a natural goal scorer (Calvert-Lewin apart) we struggle to score. Can’t disagree with your analysis of our away support. Give fantastic backing and getting little return for their travels.

They definately aren't suited to it and it takes away from work in other areas that they are suited to, but I understand why its being done right now.

Agree on Keane, Coady is terrible also but if Mina is fit you have to start him. I think he only started one game in the survival run last season but he was a real leader in that game against Chelsea and dominated their forwards. It worries me that dYche just wants bread and butter british CBs.

The comparison isn't at all suitable for me. He started on less points, Leeds actually have more players available despite sales due to last season having an injury crisis, they also have a better manager now. There are no whipping boys, the bottom 2 finished on 21 and 22 points, that isn't going to happen this season and it its without question a more competitive bottom half. Losing Gordon and not replacing him is more significant that Evertonians will admit and not having Richarlison available is gigantic, the single biggest factor and massive difference maker between the two situation. You are talking about a 60 million Brazilian international compared to no one, no one at all. You can argue Dyche has failed if we go down as he was brought in to keep us up, but comparing it to last season is a complete fantasy

I think there are whipping boys, we're just one of them. We only got 4 points from 12 against the 'whipping boys' last year and that included a 5- 2home defeat!

Yes, not having Richarlison available is huge, and that's not on Dyche and he won't get the blame for it.

But let's not act like Lampard had some kind of illustrious forward line.

Richarlison dragged us through with the fans and a bit of Pickford in the end but he still had some shockers last season himself.

Losing Gordon and not replacing him in January was ludicrous but again that's on the club, just like not replacing Richarlison is.

My point was, this time last year he wasn't offering quality end product. He wasn't creating good chances, he wasn't having tons of shots or scoring lots of goals. He was just working hard and setting the tone (which is what dropped off completely this season btw, and we saw that without that hard work he's a very limited, albeit talented, player).

You can't launch the ball up to Maupay though. Simms... maybe, but it's not his game.

And tbh no it's not a useless middle really. The 1st half yesterday was good and the gameplan was clear and effective. Changing to a more counter-attacking style in the second half, and then not utilising subs earlier on, were mistakes IMO. And starting Keane is ludicrous when Mina is available.

But still, their second goal doesn't happen if Doucoure simply does the right thing.

Then put someone up there you can launch it at. Either do what you want to do or do something else that can work. The half measures really aren't going to get us anywhere.

The first half was good because we got needlessly fouled for a penalty and scored from a set play. It isn't enough. The priority for the manager is to figure out consistent chance creation and goal scoring so we can win games. What we're doing now isn't it.
