2022/23 Sean Dyche

Why would you think Dyche is that? We dont need to grind out single points, at best, we need someone capable of getting our attack going. We need to win games. Dyche is not the man for that. He couldnt even keep it going with a squad he built for his style of football, what makes you think he would be able to do it with our squad? Thinking Dyche equals safety is illogical. If thats the kind of football we ‘need’, bring Sam back. He might be less likeable than Dyche is, but hes twice the manager.

I dont want either.
The outdated footballing philosophy that defensive play is sensible won't go away. And I get why it comes up. You aren't out of a 0-0 game and you can steal it. Which is why Dyche finished 7th once. Some years you'll just get the slight edge and win more than your fair share. And then other times you win 4 of 30 and get sacked. I'd prefer we stopped playing for the coin flips. Koeman, Allardyce, Carlo, Rafael, Frank and now Dyche would all be that same way of trying to do it.

At some point you need to try and control games and actually be capable of outplaying opponents. Only really Carlo, who abandoned it after about 10 games, and Marco Silva have really tried in recent years.

A common misconception football fans seem to have is playing ultra defensive football the entire season is pragmatic it's not in fact Carlo played super defensive football when his preferred players were injured instead of finding a more balanced solution despite the mounting limitations and that found us beat regularly in the second half of last season by incredibly mediocre teams. Frank was basically playing what dyche would implement in a general sense it would probably be more structured by like I mentioned it other posts teams cant setup like that on the regular as opponents have developed ways to unlock those defenses that sit back for entire game. Brentford can adopt a defensive approach but they rarely go extreme like dyche or pulis. Thomas frank to me is a true pragmatist as he knows that an effective attack is essential to winning the game not the strategy in the simpsons where homer was a boxer and he just sat there getting pummeled until his opponent got tired and collapsed that's basically dyches style snatch and grab desperation style we need to be able control some games not even fluid flair play but just some competent balanced football

The improvement would be our transition defending which under Lampard was pathetic. I have no clue if he is even capable of coaching something unique in an attacking sense but at the very least it would be nice to not concede 4 goals to every team with a bit of pace on the counter. I don't know if he can keep us up but who would at this point? Hopefully if we appoint him the board tell him he has to implement something resembling a decent style of play otherwise I fear he will not last here long. The basics of his style, the hard tackles, the fierceness, the work rate, are all good and he's certainly better than Lampard by some distance but this is a better squad than he has ever had so I expect them and him to manage that accordingly.

I think Dyche’s tactics, especially playing long balls to DCL through the middle, will be a welcome change from watching Gray deliberate on the left wing before trying to take on two defenders by himself for the better part of the game. But it’s been so stale, I’m ready to see anything different happening out there.

if it is this feller, then one thing I would feel hopeful about is holding onto a lead. It must be six or seven times this season we have actually gone ahead in a game, only for Lampard to balls it up by not holding onto it. I have no doubt that if Dyche came and we went 1 up, he would rearrange the etam to defend that lead at all costs. That may not be pretty, but that would get us out of trouble and that is all that matters right now.

The defence is not our biggest problem mate.

It is simple, he didn't get them relegated as he didn't manage the last 8 games. As I said just sticking with the facts. If you look at previous seasons with Burnely the last 25% of the season was very often squeaky bum time but he managed to see them over the line

What are you on about?

He was in charge of over 75% of the league games last season.

For him to of kept them up he would of had to double his wins in the league in 8 games. He would of had to win 4 games and draw 2 in 8 games.

He wouldn't of done that, he took them down.
