It’s embarrassing that he looks like the best option out of what’s available. I think it may have come to that point.

But do people really think he would have played the same style if Burnely had been bought by Qatar and the owners bought him Sterling and Aguero to play up top? And Modric the middle, who you certainly wouldn’t bypass. It’s deliberate ignorance.

Managers can say repeatedly that their philosophy is to play the way that has the best chance of getting results with the players they have available. But because they are stuck with that same squad for X years, that style of play becomes their only way of playing according to fans and media. Obviously better managers will come up with better ways to use the available squad, and that’s what separates the good from the bad.

Large Samuel has one of the biggest “he plays this way” reputations, mainly because most squads he managed in the last 20 years were relegation fodder low on confidence. Of course he would use the same methods. But his Bolton team did not play like his West Brom team.

Rodger’s Leicester don’t play like his RS. Before the last 2 seasons it’s been all about using Vardy. Less so now as Vardy less explosive.

If Bielsa comes, we will not be playing the same way as Leeds did for about 18 months, if ever. He will retire before this squad could be rebuilt to play that way completely. He will use what he has in the best way he can.

The main doubt about Dyche-types is not that they only play low block hoofball and refuse to play any other way, it’s that no-one really knows what they actually would do with a squad that is capable of more than that. That’s the gamble we’d be taking, not that we’d be a bit bored.

Still don’t particularly want him.
If you have watched his interview on talksport and sky, he says if went to spurs I wouldn’t play like I did at Burnley as he has better players. He adapts to to players he has to get the best out of them and to maximise points. Now he can just being saying this and he comes here and it’s 100% identical to Burnley who knows.

Seen a lot of folks on the forum swallowing the lazy punditry line about Dyche automatically meaning low block, boring football - reasonable since the Burnley games that were televised are the ones where they needed to sit deep and defend against the Top 6, but not actually true.

Yes it'll be defensive (we are joint bottom) but it certainly doesn't mean the high press will evaporate over night. The press might get triggered less given the fixtures ahead and our position in the league, but crucially, it'll be far better organised - simply because we have a much better coach (and the same would be true if it was Bielsa).

Burnley regressed in his final year, but certainly in the two years prior, they were regularly much further up the pitch than people recognise - here's a few examples:

Everton 1 - 2 Burnley -

Leicester 1 - 1 Burnley -

Burnley 1 - 1 Arsenal -

and what the closest example to what I think we'll see under Dyche at Goodison (two forwards press, midfield and backline push up to win the resulting long ball, counter) - Burnley 2 - 0 Fulham to send Fulham down -

With Dyche we all know he kept Burnley competitive in the premier league for a good period of time. The lack of talent he had at his disposal was surpassed by the work ethic.

I know everyone hates all our players at the moment but we have better players than he did at Burnley so the bar is higher IMO. The question is, is he more than just a one trick pony or can he adapt with better players.

He'd get us organised defensively which is an absolute must but without goals currently in the team are we destined to lose but only lose by the odd goal or can he get us winning games by the odd goal.

The defence looks made for him to work with, all Dyche 'type of players' but can he get us scoring goals, thats the million dollar question.

That’s a decent comment but as others have said , big Sam said the same and has never changed and even mourinho suggested he was open to change and hasn’t . Generally Managers become wedded to their own styles .

Not saying i think he is the correct choice but is getting back to simple plays bad. Honestly is frustrating not seeing the wingers/ full backs put crosses into the box. Instead cutting in all the time, passing sidewards and back, is rubbish what we watch week in with hardly any shots. Agree i dont want hit it long all the time it is about using different plays, yes he must show more here but will be better option than sam. Who just wants cash and last time thought had chance staying, bought players we couldnt get rid of on big contrats, big payout
