2022/23 Sean Dyche

Dyche started well and in the last few games absolutely lost the plot, threw points away against Fulham playing a different way to what got us points before, literally threw away our best chance of points.... Dyche was brought in to keep us up, if we go down he has failed and should be sacked or it is more of the same, rewarding failure.

FWIW he isnt keeping us up, Dyche and this team have lost the ability to win, I cant see where we get 1 win let alone 2 or 3 we need to stay up. Everyone needs to accept our fate, it`s over..... if you think different tell me where we are likely to get the points required other than some blind delusion that "We will stay up" with out any reason or evidence to back that up!
This is nonsense. We lost onana and Coleman to injuries and doucs to suspension. Those 3 players were carrying the team, without them we were always going to struggle. Formations were changed to accommodate these losses. I knew the minute Doucs got that card we were screwed.

Right, and a whole lot of that comes down to the manager.
Lose one midfielder for a stupid card and your whole team falls apart?
As for Coleman, that's a big loss but Patterson did ok at the start of the season, hell, even put Iwobi back there.

His inability to cope with some missing players was startling.
I've seen good fight in the Arsenal game, that's it.
Everything else has been meh.

Pickford

Coleman - Mina - Tarkowski - Mykolenko

Iwobi
-- Doucoure -- Gana -- Onana -- McNeil

Calvert-Lewin

This 4-5-1 (or even a 4-2-3-1 variation) is, for me personally, probably the best side we can field between now and the end of the season, assuming all of the players are 100% fit & available.

Whether Dyche sees it this way or not (he probably doesn't) I genuinely believe this is our best chance of picking up points in these last six games. We should only be utilising the likes of Patterson, Keane, Garner, Gray & Simms off the bench and just punting Maupay, Holgate & Coady completely.

With the absence of those three players, the team completely lost it`s spine.

Dyche knew it and tried to adapt to their loss, by changing the formation, that he thought would suit the players that he had available.

It didn`t work and I fully expect us to go back to 4-5-1 on Thursday, if those three players are fit and available to play.

I mean tbf to dyche this has basically been his go to side when everyone is fit. Grey been in the DCL role…

The problems have obviously come when players have dropped out. I agree to posters who blame dyche for certain things…certainly the Fulham game…but the squad is just dreadful. First 11 can just about keep us up but after that it’s a grim watch.

Well for a start it’s been 2 midfielders because we lost onana aswell. What you’re saying would make sense if we were a good team - losing one player shouldn’t make the wheels come off if you’ve got other players to pick up the mantle. We haven’t though. We’re really, really bad and by some miracle we’d managed to find a way of playing that gave us a chance of getting some results. We lost a couple of players who were key to allowing us to play that way and we‘ve struggled to find a way past that. We’d won 17 of our last 71 league games before he took over, most of which were with a much better squad, I just can’t get my head round people being surprised that he hasn’t come in and won 5 out of 12. The palace game was very similar to the games we’ve won under dyche but Calvert lewin’s shot went just the wrong side of the post and Iwobi’s volley was saved instead of one of them finding the bottom corner. That’s what it boils down to now, we’re not going to suddenly start playing really well and blowing teams away, we need to keep it tight and hope we manage to nick a goal or two. We quite simply don’t have the ability to do any more than that, that should be abundantly clear by now.

It's grim to watch but it's not a terrible squad. It should be comfortably mid table.
Whats the point tho if you know newcastle is coming up and you also know there's not a hope in hell he'll play Mina.
Make all the squad arguments you like but he hasn't given Mina 2 minutes.

I can't agree with that. How many of our players would get into any team in the top 10? Pickford, certainly, but who else? A couple could probably hold their own, but no more than that.

He didn't get a chance to bring anyone in and it is tough when you lose players through injury and suspension
but
He has a midfield three of Gana, Iwobi and garner. All fit and all well able to play football.
He has issues at full back but didn't help himself with the Holgate situation.
Against palace and fulham they were way too sloppy and as soon as the ball was turned over the opposition countered quickly because they knew they could.
I also cant figure out what stile he's trying to play. It's like it's a little of everything, long, down the wings, trying to press high, trying to counter.
Against arsenal they looked well organized and like they knew what each other was doing, against palace and fulham they looked every bit as disjointed as the worst Lampard sides, and that is down to coaching.

not many probably, that's why its about organization and coaching.
Look at fulham and Brighton. They're not packed with superstars.
That Everton squad, under good management, break top 10, just.

Fulham was awful, no argument there. Palace was poor in a way but in the context of the last couple of years I think it’s very harsh to put it down as downright bad. It was our 10th away point of the season and our second clean sheet, if you think that was as bad as the Bournemouth debacles, losing at home to a Southampton side that hadn’t won a game for about 9 years or the absolute humiliation of Brighton looking like they could score double figures if they wanted to then we’ll have to agree to disagree I think. Personally I could see exactly what the plan was on Saturday, and in most dyche games. Battle, scrap, hope that we take one of the chances we’ll undoubtedly get. It’s not revolutionary stuff or something I want to see long term, but i honestly just can’t get my head round people not seeing that it’s all we’ve got. We’re sloppy because almost nobody in the squad has any real footballing ability. That’s obvious just on paper now, we’re not a side that’s underachieving, we are very much a bottom 3/4 team.
