I sort of agree. Who would you go for? Is it a romantic Rooney - Baines combo, or do we just find really good young managers from anywhere and rebuild?
That Anthony Barry who has just gone to Bayern as an assistant might be an interesting one. Scouser and I'm assuming an Everton fan since he started his playing career here.

Just a difference of opinion mate.
I don't think that squad is terrible.
Nowhere near as bad as the two sides that nearly dropped in the 90s
Just look at what Emery has done at Villa. Gerrard left them in a mess.
That's good management.
Thats all I'm looking for
and I don't see it in Dyche.
Gerrard left them in a mess from a coaching perspective but Emery had a really nice team to work with there. Remember thinking their starting 11 looked really interesting at the start of the season. Not surprised to see them performing so well.

A key difference though would be the quality of the academies. It’s long been debated on here that Everton’s academy doesn’t produce the right quality of player (I personally think it’s an overly negative take and we probably produce just as many truly top players as most other PL teams over a long period).
We have a fantastic academy, at academy level.

Anything past that and we're dreadful.

Schumacher better credentials than any of them if you want to go on an emotional basis.

Rosenior, Rob Edwards, Kieran McKenna, plus 100s of managers on the continent
The difficulty with this sort of appointment is you need someone who can transfer their skills to the PL and not be overawed/laughed at by better players. You don't want to appoint a Nathan Jones basically.

Yeah I dont mind that too. He's with Roberto Martinez at Belgium & Portugal, but also gathering experience around the place.
I really also dont mind Dyche staying - IF we actually have a strategy. I'm sure Dyche is capable of more tactical and clever football, but we just dont have the players for it. I just hope that relegation isn't the thing that makes us start from scratch - I'd much rather we take 2 relegation battles as a sign that things need to change.

Just on the evidence he's working with Martinez we should never consider him.

Also not sure on the "Dyche is capable of more tactical and clever football" bit personally, but I admire the optimism if nothing else.

When Lampard took over there was talk of him trying to bring Barry here. And at the time it was being said he's a blue I think

Sheffield United made the FA Cup semi finals this year. How many of them could play for a top half team?

Dowell Ledson Davies Kenny won youth team PLs for Everton but they weren’t good enough.

I’ve got no problem with putting the accusation at the manager’s door if I thought he was ignoring several PL ready products in the youth team but at Everton the opposite is normally true, we’ve given players who probably aren’t good enough far too much game time.

Kenny Davies Dowell McAleny Pennington Garbutt Browning Galloway Simms Dobbin Onyango Baningime probably don’t even get a debit for any other PL team. Even going all the way back to Jose Baxter Dan Gosling etc. we’ve always given kids premier league minutes who were probably nowhere near it.

I agree with this. Plymouth are my 2nd club ( I was born there and moved to Liverpool 40 years ago ) and he is absolutely revered down there. Given their budget and that their best player has been missing for half the season it would be a remarkable achievement to get promoted ahead of Sheffield Wed , Ipswich , Barnsley , Peterborough etc. Absolutely no doubt he is a major managerial talent at that level even if he is a bit of a tinkerman when it comes to team selection.
However it would be a massive step up to manage Everton.
He may well be capable but it would be hell of a risk.
Personally I'd beg Potter to take over and offer him complete control.

No issues with Dyche, but if we get relegated he has to go. The whole club will need rebuilding, I expect 80% of the senior playing staff to leave either on a free or sold to keep the wolves from the door. In response we will need to put faith in the clubs youth and unfortunately I don't think Dyche is the man for that style of rebuild.
Completely agree.
If Dyche keeps us up he deserves the chance to rebuild next season.
If we go down he has to bear some responsibility.

Oh yeah, that would be my key reservation at someone like Schumacher or a lower league manager, Moyes did a good 4 years at Preston before being 'ready' for us. Obviously times have changed since then and managers with 12-18 good months tend to get snapped up quicker, which doesn't allow them time to learn at there original club etc.

Nathan Jones was also the most intense man in the world, and his logics only seemed to work at Luton but not at Stoke or Southampton. I think if you asked Luton fans also, they wouldn't swap him back for Edwards

Just can't get on board with that at all. Forgetting the 2 that stayed longer because then you get a whole new can of worms, Ledson left here at 19 having had a couple of loans (basically the exact pathway that everyone always wants for every player) and now he's about to turn 26 having never played higher than midtable in the Championship and not even always being an automatic starter at that level. Sometimes you just have to accept that players who look good as juniors don't always translate it to their senior careers.
