2022/23 Sean Dyche

Spurs have conceded more goals than us, look at the teams around us in the league, we have conceded less.

Our problems arent in defence.

I’m absolutely baffled that you think our defence isn’t an issue. We have been worse defensively since Dyche came in and started playing Keane.

We scored twice last night so our attack clearly wasn’t the issue, likewise against Forest, we failed to win those games because of the defence.

I disagree. We finally scored 2 goals in a game last night and didn’t grab the win because yet again we can’t keep people out. These players can’t magically turn on the style and start slotting but they have proven they can keep teams out.
It's just that they can't get the balance though isn't it? They can sit back and defend, but then they don't look like scoring (like Palace and the majority of the Newcastle game for example) or they can push forward and cause problems but leave themselves vulnerable (like last night , Forest etc). I realise I probably come across like a massive Dyche fan at the moment but i'm really not - I just think the squad is crap and that the results and performances we're seeing pretty much reflect what i'd expect from them.

We’ve been conceding more goals since Michael Keane came back into the side, I can tell you that for free, and that is something I can and will put on the manager.

Baffled why people are focusing on defence when we have scored the least goals in the entire footballing world.
Also goat look at Leeds they have not had any issues scoring yet they're hitting the fat Sam signal due to desperation caused by conceding abundance of goals. Yes scoring is vital and goals are lacking for us, but what's the point of scoring if you cant hold on to games by preventing the other team from getting goals

20 points from 14 games, which would be 54 points across a full season. Which is probably 9th or 10th. That’s the same League finish that Ancelotti achieved with Richarlison, James and DCL fit by the way. Plus Digne.

Second best goal scorer sold in Jan. No DCL for 10 of the games.

Cloud cuckoo land.
I would never expect this squad to reach 54 points as form shifts through the season even using your example of Carlo's last season we faded hard after Christmas, I think we could be where palace is right now if certain tweaks were made and Keane was jettisoned into the sun that's not crazy

Sorry but GAME MANAGEMENT.

Some saying he didn’t want to upset the balance and potentially loose the game when we’ve got lads blowing for tugs for the last 20 mins is some alternate reality nonsense. For me, there was more chance us conceding when players are crawling round the pitch done in.

Coady or Mina for the walking
catastrofuck Keane is a no brainier.

Doucure was so high he could have brought simms on and played the same way, and simms would have gave their two awful cbs something more to worry about.

Gray for iwobi and switch McNeil to the right, gray on be left and throw onana on for gana, who was on a yellow and knackered, and i think we beat them, at a time when wins are massive.

we drew

And that's fine. I hate Keane, always have, and i'd happily see him punted tomorrow. I'm not sure we'd necessarily be that much better with Coady or whoever coming in personally, but I get the argument. The point was more that we obviously had a massive issue with scoring goals, and Dyche is clearly trying to address that by pushing more people forward etc so just reducing it to 'the defence has got worse ergo he is stupid' is a bit daft. The team overall is rubbish and we have 2 1/2 years of evidence now that they aren't capable of both defending and attacking to a high level on a consistent basis. We've obviously reached a point where something has to give but it seems like some people just aren't accepting that - if we sit back they say we're playing for a draw and if we push on they say he can't organise a defence. Obviously in an ideal world we'd get the balance right, but then in an ideal world we wouldn't have been appointing Sean Dyche because we'd only won about 5 games in 2 years and had scored less goals as a team than some players.

I think our defence is an issue, our midfield is an issue and our attack is defo an issue.

I know you’re from the land of grafting stats onto something to make it seem fun, but football doesn’t need it.

If you need it to enjoy the game, it’s not the game for you. Try baseball.

I studied statistics at university, by the way. So it’s not that I don’t respect them.

I just don’t respect xG.
Football decision making absolutely does need it because they instead default to things like form and the table (still stats!) that have very little predictive value.

I'm not saying xG is everything but it's a valuable tool that has started a more common trend of thinking of teams level of play beyond the final scoreline.

The problem with picking up at most 1 point per game, is you leave yourself vulnerable to results you can’t control….it’s highly unlikely that Forest, Leicester and Leeds win in one weekend, but you only need two out of three to get one win at any point, and we are then four points adrift of safety if we do not draw, and three if we draw….we need that w on the board asap. despite last nights performance I would not back this team to be able to claw back more a deficit in the remaining pressure games.

I don’t expect Leeds to get anything out of their next game, but I do expect Forest to get something from Southampton at home (I actually expect them to win) and I am not sure on Leicester away at Fulham. I therefore expect Forest to be 4 points clear of us. If we get a point at Brighton, (which is debatable) it puts us on same points as Leeds, possibly Leicester if they lose at Fulham (better goal difference) and if Forest win, we still stay in bottom 3. Now none of those results may happen of course, but it just shows the importance of trying to get the 3 points and not hope for the other teams to get the result their form deserves…..every team gets the odd unexpected result.

Our two most winnable games are the final two. We need to ensure we're still in the fight by then and I think a point against Brighton will do that.

Obviously a win would be ideal, but realistically against a top Brighton side I think a point if a good result.
