What else was he ever going to say though? He obviously thought it was the right thing to do, otherwise he wouldn’t have done it, so all he was ever going to do was defend it. People expecting managers to throw themselves under a bus in these things is even more bizarre than expecting them to do it to players.
I don’t think that’s entirely correct.
People just wanted to hear a logical football explanation for his decisions so they could appreciate and better understand.
Unfortunately he didn’t really provide a coherent reason the result of which is that he has , in effect , thrown himself under the bus anyway.

I think the fact he didn’t make any subs was a signal that he was happy with the draw, which is where I think people’s frustrations come from rather than the belief that one of the subs would deffo have popped up with the winner. But rubbish players often can pop up with unexpected moments, look at Simms coming on and grabbing us a point against Chelsea. I think he should’ve took the gamble to win the game, and think by making no subs he’d settled for the point.
Spot on mate. That is exactly what irked me. Some of the lads legs where practically falling off and someone like Gray or Simms for the final 20 minutes might have had a field day as it was very open at that point in the game but he blatantly played for a draw in a 6 pointer against a relegation rival that we really needed to win, especially with 2 very tough games coming up next that we will be lucky get any points at all in.

A single point gave advantage to the opposition and the teams around and left us with an even bigger mountain to climb. It was really crap and negative management and the kind that wont keep us up if it continues.

He did though? He basically said that he thought the team was doing well as it was and that statistically throwing on a sub for the sake of it doesn’t often make any difference. Reading between the lines he’s seemingly saying that he doesn’t think his attacking options are any good and so didn’t think they were any more likely to score than the players on the pitch. You can disagree with that or not like it but saying he didn’t offer an explanation is just plain wrong, he clearly did.

All managers answer these things with contempt and platitudes, expecting him to offer an in depth tactical explanation or a mea culpa is daft because it literally never happpens.

That is him all over. get rid.

I didn’t mean to say he offered no explanation just not one that was coherent and based on footballing logic.
As you say whether you deem it good enough is entirely subjective.
I found his reasoning weak and questionable to be honest,

The thing with this fella is, he thinks he can pull the wool over Evertonians eyes, that is not going to happen as we know our football and we know when someone is talking S#/%e
That game the other night was crying out for someone like Gray who can also score a goal.

He is talking absolute rubbish, this why he doesn't win games of football look at the stats Sean

We will stick with Dyche hoping he takes us straight back up. We will flounder, and when we are lower mid table come January 25th, they will sack him and try to appoint someone by the 30th and then sign no one to help us secure promotion. Everton finish 16th in the championship.
…and in the preceding weeks there will be a relegation 23/24 thread where we ponder and debate the possible results permutations of games involving Cardiff, Rotherham and QPR 😂

He’s not exactly known as a manager for his open, pacy, flowing flamboyant style of play though is he? We all knew or thought we knew what we were getting….I think the frustration is he is showing the same attitude to managing a football team but the execution of it is not yielding the points haul we thought it would. As much as it was poor the other night not making one change to freshen things up, I think people would have accepted it more if we’d had more points under him by now, but because we’re leaking like a sieve, and so the points return is low, he needed to be more adventurous but we know he is a ‘conservative’ manager by nature

No, he is known however for keeping it tight at the back, that's where the frustrations lie.

just here to vent some steam
I cant take much more of him calling the players by nicknames, they're not even nicknames, just shortened versions of last names.
Like a bunch of lads on a stag do. Running round shouting Lads lads lads and breaking their arses laughing at crap jokes.
What really gets me is that it looks like even if we are relegated, there wont be wholesale change
and we'll have to put up with meat and two veg football being served up by dyche for a whole season till he misses out on a playoff spot.
Sorry, bit grim, but I couldn't handle rotund samuel when he was getting results, not sure how I'm going to handle this lemon.

I think that might come back to haunt him. And the club ultimately. Nobody knows if it would have won the extra points but if he had and it still finished a draw i know i would have gone well at least we tried to go for it. We are staring down the barrel. We had to take a chance.
His reply of, well i know about stats and substitutions, was a bit lame.

He mentions stats every 5 minutes. Starting to think he’s only saying it because people call him a dinosaur. Don’t give a toss what substitution stats are out there (how they can be applied to all clubs is beyond me) - stick some fresh runners on!
