2023/24 Sean Dyche

If you start from the point of view of xG being a good indicator of genuine chance creation, which can be debated, nothing unsurprising here, but the scale of the underperformance in taking chances is fairly staggering.

"people are kidding themselves if they think this squad is good enough to win games"

Utter fools expecting us to win games........
Feels like years ago 😪

Massive disappointment.

The fanbase are aligned in the fact that we should be doing better.

We divide on whether Dyche is the one. I think he’s majorly underperforming and I cannot buy the ‘who else is available argument’. There are tons of people available who would give it a go and to be honest, it couldn’t get any worse.

Only problem and biggest problem. We have no owner, no money so he’s here to stay. Whether we like it or not. He won’t change and we’ve got to pray we pick up 3-4 more wins somehow (which I don’t see).

Based on the accounts chat today we can’t afford to sack him anyway.

It’s a difficult one. If we’d no points deduction and were 9 points clear of the bottom 3 then ok he’s done what was asked of him but the current form is terrible and he doesn’t seem to want to try anything other than bung on Ashley Young. In normal times he’d have been booted after this run. Bit we aren’t in normal times.

Brentford have been crippled with injuries this season. They have had a number of players out for significant amounts of the season. Their style and ability in seasons when they have had a mainly fit team has generally been pretty good and they are a better side than we are, even at the moment they play better stuff even if the results aren’t there. That’s why Maupay is scoring.
I Agree watched Brentford outplay man utd last night by good football & plenty of determination
When we play utd we just let them walk all over us

He's not underperformed, he is well able and is performing to the level of his ability.

Which unfortunately for us is well below where we need it to be. The fact we've thrown 5 mill at him is beyond belief.

This isn't going to change in the short term. We are going with a whimper, where is the fight?

Is should stem from the manager. But he seemingly doesn't know what to do to change., he only has one way of playing.

Ability is the problem, plain and simple.

I watch with my eyes, XG does not equate to what I watch. Its a massive falsehood
Spot on. I remember a few years ago debating/arguing this with an infamous poster on here: stats are all well and good, but they can be hugely overstated.

When we beat Brighton 5-1, they had a better XG than us! To be fair, we are making chances in games, but with my own eyes I don't see them being confident ones.

We didn’t change our style of play when Maupay was subbing for Dom, which is to hoof it vaguely towards the box and hope that the big fella gets on the end of it.

Except Maupay is not a big fella.

Yes he blew his chances when they fell to him which doesn’t absolve him. But he was not well used. He is capable of occasional guile with the ball on the floor but expecting him to best the likes of Dunk or Schar or Joachim Andersen for speculative long balls from Garner and Harrison and McNeil was silly.
