2023/24 Sean Dyche

Overall though, he's defo steadied the ship and has settled on a way of playing: since Luton we've handed over possession of the ball to all teams we've played and looked to get more shots on goal than the opposition.

We have to stick to that. Its working.
It's what he knows, which I guess is the sort of thing that might be a problem down the road. But right now it's what we are and we're honestly really, really unlucky not to have about 5-10 more points this campaign.

He is coming across as very stubborn, it's fine and well having a philosophy but even guys like Pep know when they need to change things.
I think the problem is every manager we’ve had before him was even more stubborn including Carlo. Dyche has at the very least conceded on a few of his mistakes which is more than I can say about every of our managers before him. I think he paid for keeping Ashley Young on and going really strong in the cup. Both had an impact on that second half.

It is what it is we got a great result and a decent result. Would have definitely preferred a win but I wouldn’t say he failed today.

I regain my faith in humanity when I read posts like this. I'm very pro-Dyche but it's completely understandable to criticise his lack of subs today, and it's valid to be unhappy with 18% possession at home.

But the people who deny there has been improvement in the nine months Dyche has been here... I mean, honestly it makes me question my sanity. So it's good when a poster complains about Dyche but also at least acknowledges the progress.
Thanks mate, you are correct in my thinking too. The man has got the spirit back in the side, he's got fitness and a bit of pace back in the side and he knows what's needed to avoid the relegation scraps of the last 2 seasons.
Hence I'm baffled when it was clear to everyone we had exhausted bodies on the pitch he never made one sub until the end, I'm just not understanding that part of his thought process, it does not make any sense at all.

Spot on.

We need to be humble. Direct play into the box. Leave the ball playing to our opponents and strip them of it and get shots off.

Massive red flags with Dyche.

Starting Keane and Maupay at the start of the season. Repeatedly playing and signed Ashley Young who is the worst full back I’ve ever seen anywhere ever. Management and treatment of Beto.

His substitutions or lack of subs are a disgrace as well.

Good point but even this is held against him because if everyone else "could see" that a change needed to happen it apparently doesn't count.

The game he plays upto 65/70 mins is fine ( although not easy on the eye )
But christ it's every game he won't put fresh legs on.
It's a massive downer for me & shows his stubbornness & limitations.

First half worked well. Got the early goal and defended very comfortably and Brighton barely created anything.

Second half though they move Mitoma permanently back to left, put on Joao Pedro to play support striker and then take off Ferguson to put on Ansu Fati. That's when the momentum of the game swung and Brighton basically camped in the Park End half for a good half hour.

Bloody hell get over it lad!!

That point I made was in reference to Kompany not Dyche.

2 wins and a draw in the space of a week. Some full blown plot losses on here tonight.

There's no doubt its been steadied , but that was a very valuable wasted 2 points today.

De Zerbi committed all bar 2 forward going for it . Any out ball agst their 2 defenders we could have sealed the win.
But he left all our players on for the 3rd game in 6 days for 90 mins.

Very poor tactics.

Agree.

I'm conflicted but our home form under him suggests he's not getting it right. Especially when you consider the opposition at Goodison. That Arsenal game was embarrassing.

He talks the talk about knowing what fans want and connecting with Goodison but that's not 18% possession to Brighton. Sure, we beat them 5-1 at Brighton with 22% but at Goodison, it doesn't sit right with me.

Bournemouth this season the other week was the first time Dyches Everton has scored more than 1 (in the Prem). I can't see that changing anytime soon.

If we get the lead we dig deep.
We were pressing well from the front and forcing them into mistakes and misplaced passes for large part. They kept the ball without creating much. Our possessions were quick direct and threatening at times, it won’t chalk up possession time but that’s enough to cause problems.

Alternatively we can build slowly, keep the ball, cycle it left and right, doing exactly what they did, nice possession count but painful to watch because I don’t think we can breakdown any team playing this way.
