2023/24 Sean Dyche

His game plan was fine, and yeah, he’s dealing with a tough hand for the squad but I’d like to see a creative sub/change at times

Take Doucoure off, bring Danjuma on

I get baby steps.

I think we set up far too negatively. And once again fluffed on changes because those fresh legs Brighton got made the difference to them, we were huffing and puffing. His subs were way too late.

True but to quote Sir Dyche "fine margins"

10mins away from 3 points. Could've made changes earlier (probably should've). But it's a point against one of the better teams in the league and we looked really well drilled.

We were pressing well from the front and forcing them into mistakes and misplaced passes for large part. They kept the ball without creating much. Our possessions were quick direct and threatening at times, it won’t chalk up possession time but that’s enough to cause problems.

Alternatively we can build slowly, keep the ball, cycle it left and right, doing exactly what they did, nice possession count but painful to watch because I don’t think we can breakdown any team playing this way.

We got the goal and dug in deep. Dyche takes a point before the game and it shows. For me, he's too negative at home.

In fact, just now;

Sean Dyche "It's definitely a point gained. They're a good outfit."

It's 2 lost, for me.

Before the game, a point gained. After knowing how it went, undeniably 2 dropped.

We’ve got a team that doesn’t wilt under the slightest pressure. The difference with Garner, Doucoure and Onana in midfield compared to the walking over 70’s football team of Allan, Gomes, Siggi - all so slow.

We’re not getting bullied out of games with this team Tarks, Branthwaite, Onana, Doucoure, DCL - they’re all huge physical and players. It’s a big difference to the last few seasons. Not going to dominate the ball every game but we can stay in games and as we saw yesterday, that’s giving us a chance at some wins.
Rubbish mate, we will never boss a game, just chuck ourselves in front of possession against us !! Dyche will be the new Allardyce !!

I was thinking along the lines of replacing Young with Patterson around the 60 to 65 minute mark then maybe Harrison with Danjuma a bit later on, rather than waiting until the 90th minute to make a change. Mind you, Sean Dyche could've made those early changes and we end up getting beat, then fans would be asking why he made changes when we were winning etc.

…a huge risk bringing on Danjuma for Harrison who was doubling up with Young to cover their threat. Danjuma would’ve been watching the game from the pitch rather than the bench.

Its all good and well making substitutions but you can’t throw away what you’ve worked so hard for.

He’s definitely improved the backbone and spirit of the team after Lampard and Pig Man.

Last season he kept us up with an awful squad with absolutely no spirit, who would fold easily under even the slightest bit of pressure.

This season you can see a definite improvement in the solidity and we look much better going forward too.

He is a very “safety first” manager though so not going to be everybody’s cup of tea. Plus his lack of ability to change a game is very obvious.

We aren’t going down though unless the PL deducts all of our points.

It’s funny because if Brighton score that little bit earlier, I think we come back and hit another to close it out. We were purposely sitting on our arses and it showed when we almost brute forced the ball into the net at the end.

This is one of those games where it is fair to call him out on being so negative in the second half. I think it was right to try and grind it out but Ashley Young is apparently a goal seeking missile (for ours anyway) and it didn’t work out. Hindsight and all that.

Not for me mate.

I mean, we've got to win some games at home. We've got to start some games at home with us going to win the bloody thing and win it well.

Dread to think for us to be relying on away games.

3 wins in 11 games.

1 home league win in 5 before today - Fulham, Wolves, Luton, Arsenal, Bournemouth.

Now 1 home league win in 6 - against very modest opposition.

Dyche is getting it wrong at home.
