They seem better than last year, but is it because they are now playing to their strengths? I think so, and it is due to the manager's approach. As soon as we start playing more expansive/ambitious, these players will be more exposed/or they will be given functions in the team that do not suit their skills.

Gradually, as the team gains security and self-confidence - something you get through winning matches + new players who make the team qualitatively better, you can little by little start playing a little more ambitiously.
The manager has given them individual roles, something previous managers didn't, that's a good thing. The basic spine of this team is better than you and others give credit for imo. You are entitled to your opinion though.

Never been his biggest fan, but you cant knock the results recently, the Luton game sticks out like a sore thumb, but going away to any Premier League ground and coming away with 3 points will always impress me.

I just wanna see them tricky blue boys win games, so long may it continue.
We haven't been able to break down a low block for years so the Luton game just don't really surprise me, we don't have the player in our team that the bigger clubs do who can do that one unexpected pass and completely unlock them.

Along with centre forwards, that`s the player that costs really big money, hence why we haven`t got one.

Improving on every aspect in my opinion, hes doing a huge job, in what was a huge job of work.

Proper football manager.
As you know I’m his biggest critic but fair play to him over the last month or so.

No issues with how we play away from home which is perfect for his style but for me it’s the home performances than worry me, he has to find a way how to take the game to the possession based opposition ie Brighton Arsenal. I don’t mean go gung ho but at least have a go at them.

He still hasn’t won me over but no doubt we have improved.

Think his turnaround is still very underestimated. We were on 0.75 ppg under Lampard and with no additions Dyche hit 1.2 for the rest of the season. Now after a bad start he’s dragged us back over 1ppg.

We absolutely can’t be happy with 1.2ppg forever but it will never get you relegated and right now that’s the priority and he’s doing his job.

All the while we’ve turned a really significant profit in the transfer market to try to keep the lights on. With the hand they were dealt, on and off the pitch, both Dyche and Thelwell are doing a very, very good job.

I think you could go a more attacking formation like a 3/4/2/1 and still have that solid centre/core of the team underpinning it against teams that will sit in at Goodison. Also, and I don’t want to keep repeating myself, get Patterson in for Young, he retains possession better and he will offer an outlet down the right, and should free up Harrison to be more effective offensively.
Although against teams like Arsenal, Brighton etc playing counter attack, the system we’ve played recently, is fine if we do better when we have possession, don’t give it away so cheaply, so often.

He’s not ever going to completely win over the majority. But you are right, we’ve improved which for now, is good enough for our current turbulent conditions..👍🏻

100 percent. When results are poor then any manager is under pressure but I guess given the style Dyche plays then it makes it worse if we aren’t winning. Now we are starting to see results and long May that continue. We can worry about making the great progressive leap forward when we are a mid table team with a new stadium and finances to improve. Until then we keep scrapping. Was hard to see a way forward a few weeks back but to be fair to dyche and the players things are improving and you can’t argue with that.

That would involve playing 3 centre-backs and we only have 2 good ones

Its a rung on the ladder mate certainly, i agree i think we need more quality overall, we need a few who can stand on the ball, i think that comes down to quality of player myslef.

All of that mate, but on a lot of metrics hes ticking all the boxes;

- Identity,
- Culture
- Mentality
- Player output
- Performances
- Developing young players
- Improving existing players
- Man managing lads/protecting - DCL
- Points/Results
- Competition Progression.
- Balancing and building the squad.

Its not binary in and out for me, he will have highs and lows, but acknowledging what he is doing in what is a big job of work is important, i think we forget what a skip fire we are/have been, in many ways that indicative of his success.

He has overcome a lot of constraints and obstacles, to have us looking upwards at long last.

It is something very noteworthy to be able to at least begin to break such a vicious cycle and not quite be fearing every game as a fan. We have had 2+ years of misery, he has come in and weathered a huge storm and is now beginning to stabilise things through improvement. That will do me.

So he deserves a lot of credit for that. He will need some support in January and beyond. That is critical.

Great point mate - I find myself looking forward to the Utd game and to absolutely have a cut of them - rather then just hoping we get a bit of luck and scrape something.

Also a good point on support, i dont think he will get any in my opinion and i dont think he will get any in the summer without a significant out either.
