2023/24 Sean Dyche

Dyche is the worst manager this club has had over the last 20 years easily. He’s extremely limited and now what we’re seeing is the fact he’s burnt out the team and it’s only February. 3 league home wins is a disgrace. The football (if you can call it that) is nothing but an absolute joke considering he’s been here 13 months. I find him hugely arrogant in his team selection and never really takes blame himself. People forget he very very nearly cost us last before a wonder goal on the last day. His obsession to play Keane over Mina when everyone knew it had to be done. Can’t wait to see the back of him yet half of the fan base seems to think he’s some messiah who can’t do any wrong

You remember Lampard, Benitez and Allardyce right?

Why did he sit dobbin back down when we went 1 all? Only explanation is he’s happy with a point at home to a weakened palace side. We’re a mess so obviously can’t sack him but it’s these decisions that you hope don’t come back to bite us.

It’s all well and good saying ‘without the points deduction…’ The fact is we were in the bottom 3 when he decided a point to palace at home was acceptable, these are the moments you have to judge him on.

Got it wrong last night but can’t argue with the job he’s done before then, under incredibly difficult circumstances.

The players and fans were aligned in apathy last night which I think this was the culmination of the Premier leagues despicable handling of our case and of the awful, flawed process they have used to vilify and punish the club, plus our own self inflicted issues.

It’s a malaise of the 10 point deduction, the ongoing saga of 777 approval or not ( beyond farcical now!) plus the waiting for the appeal outcome and then any potential punishment for the 2nd breach.

Were a zombie, lifeless entity in limbo and it starting to show with Dyche and the players.

Regardless of the outside factors, Dyche has to be braver in team selection and tactics against so called lesser opposition. We can’t just pass up winnable games by surrendering any initiative before a ball has been kicked.

Were much better defensively and look fitter as a squad thanks to Dyche, but the tactics and teamwork on the field are dire.
Can't disagree with much of that .

Allardyce was streets ahead Dyche , Lampard and Benitez weren’t great either. But that doesn’t mean this fella is any good he’s dross
Allardyce - did the midfield cross the half way line in those days? People bang in about the 8th placed finish with 49 points. He took over after Unsworth picked the team that beat West Ham 4-0 putting the team in 15th position and 2 points off 9th position. The depth to the league in that season was truly horrific. It wasn't a miraculous achievement.

I dont think our full backs have the pace or ability to regularly beat a man in the final third and deliver any worthwhile delivery into the box.

Mykolenko - as much as he's improved this season, hasn't registered a single Premier League assist yet.

At right back? Even Coleman when fit hasn't the best delivery. Loves a floating cross. Young? Godfrey? Patterson?

Our wingers lack pace to drop back and support, too should we give our full backs who can't cross a ball or beat a man licence to get forward more.
The crosses when getting to byline don't always need to be in the air they can be cut backs to the penalty spot or edge of the area, or even flashed low across the face of goal, just getting in them situations will cause more havoc.

Keeping everyone in their position is easy to play against.

You don't need pace to do a one-two with the winger/midfielder (A little give and go) to create a yard of space to do the above, the problem is they aren't getting license to do that, or even worse we are probably not working on that on the training ground. Its all about shape for Dyche, theirs no patterns of play to open up teams. Brighton open up teams quite easy with players like Welbeck Lallana and Milner who well into their 30s

Almost every other team does it who have full backs/wingers no faster than what we have.

The bottom teams this year are some of the worst teams the league has ever had. Our midfield last night hardly went forward at all. The 4 wins in December are clearly down to the points deduction galvanising the players for a couple of weeks. We’ve gone back to being shocking

I mean Dan Burn's doing it for Newcastle lol

But you said it yourself, we're all about shape and keeping that shape, not about trying to have cohesive forward play.

30 points from 25 games
Third best defence from open play stat shown by Sky, only Arsenal and RS conceding fewer
Fourth best overall I think they said too

Dyche main job is to keep us up. If Calvert Lewin would put away some of these chances he kept missing we’d probably have taken closer to 40 points already.

The football was horrible last night because you can’t counter attack a team that sits deep and time wastes from minute one but if we create that many good chances to their 0 good chances I don’t see how the tactics weren’t actually correct for us to win the game. Calvert Lewin missed two big chances, Doucoure at the back post, Tarkowski header at the end, garner effort in the box from a Dom nod down, the goal itself, countless other crosses and set pieces put in.

It wasn’t pretty but in a season we need points that was probably the correct tactic last night.

We haven’t scored a goal from open play in 10 matches.
Goodison has seen the least amount of goals in the division.
Winless in 10 games
Playing Ashley young.
The team not being able to put 3 forward passes together
Making our gk the most important attacking outlet in our team

Our full backs never overlap the winger , that’s an instruction from dyche imo .

I watch us struggle to even get the ball back to Pickford without messing it up .

I totally agree with what you are saying , the players have no licence to do anything.

It’s down to dyche , the question is why?

Is it because he knows he can’t trust the players in possession?

Or is it that he does not know any other way to set a team up ?

Dyche, above all else, is pragmatic

We have bottom 5 talent in the league. We've been deducted 10 points. We have zero money to spend. Arguably our best player in attack, Doucoure, is a midfielder who can barely pass a ball properly.

First and foremost, the challenge is to stay up. Given the situation, being resolute in defence is job one, and play to our strength through set pieces to score.

How anyone that think anything different is comical.

If he's done nothing else, he's taken a side totally bereft of purpose and industry and turned them into a well drilled side that plays together and is the most fit of a side we've seen in years. Last night Palace was absolutely gassed and our guys you really thought had a good chance of scoring another off a cross. I never thought Palace could steal all the points late.

Do I want him as our manager 4 years from now? Time will tell. Probably not. But for now, I can't imagine any other manager getting more out of this ramshackle squad. Let's not forget, he has us on 30 points right now. Which should have us comfortably mid table

And despite all that we aren't in the relegation zone despite having 10 points deducted.

Let that sink in
