2024/25 Sean Dyche

Correct. Which is what makes this whole “I’d take 17th now lad” thing all the more bizarre. We are a mid table side, which hasn’t weakened any more than it’s mid table peers last season, with apparently a really good manager, so why have our expectations dropped off so much?

Expectations have dropped off because of the narrative Dyche puts out there mate and some of our fans buy it.

I expect that expectations will suddenly skyrocket among a certain contingent when Dyche is eventually sacked and replaced.

This 17th is good enough for this season is embarrassing. We should be aiming to at the very least match where about we finished last season.
Considering the bottom 6 have 2 wins between them all season, we should at least be aiming for 14th minimum

I am in sales which is very target and outcome based.

The best mentor/ trainer I had said something to me that really effected the way I approached everything and it worked.

When moving onto commsion only pay.. I was working out how many sales a year I needed to survive , pay bills etc.

It worked out at around 6-7 sales a year. ( real estate)

He said that if you know your low number , it will form bad habits as when you think like that your mind will subconsciously settle for poor results and behaviours as long as you are meeting the target or are on track.

He was right, he then asked where I wanted to be and I said 40 sales a year. We put together a plan and sechdule and tasks and review dates and I will not hit 40 this year … but I hit 36.

If dyche is aiming for 4 points or 1.1 points a game for example … after a win he can afford not to gat any from the next 2 and still be on track … or he can not attack for the next 2 and if he gets even one draw he is “ahead”

Having low standards is infectious and is basically a “loser” or in his case “ don’t lose the game” mentality… and if his targets are based on getting 40 points or finishing 17th…

We can easily fail… other teams can get more than 40 points…. Injuries can effect games, referees , constant mind numbing football will have an effect on players and them “buying into” the strategy , the fans will get fed up and eventually turn , which effects the players on match day and can actually help the opposition.

I’m not saying he should be doing what bobby brown shoes and kompany were doing at Wigan and burnley and expect players like Titus bramble to pass the ball around like prime benkenbaur … but chaining your full back to the corner flag and having your wingers playing as full back while playing defensive midfleilders as number 10’s is taking safety first to the extreme and shows how limited and clueless he actual is
I didn't know Steven Bartlett was on here

Expectations have dropped off because the owner stopped funding us, crippled us with debt, that debt and PS&R needs managing through a sell to buy/loan policy, and there’s no one steering the ship until the ownership situation is resolved. We’ve incurred two points deductions, sold most of our best players, are the only team turning a trading profit in the past 5 years and we’ve had to date two failed takeover attempts when in exclusivity periods.

Now do people think it might be all of those things that have people saying we need to stay afloat until the takeover occurs and we get revenues from the new stadium to give us room in the transfer market….

Or do people think ‘you know what I was hoping for 14th place this season but now that I’ve heard that Dyche press conference I’m specifically targeting 17th place as my only expectation for Everton’

Grow up.

For myself I maintain we’re capable of more than 48 points this season. I don’t think we’ll be in relegation trouble and it will be an orderly handover to new owners this season with Dyche going either at the point of handover or at the end of the season with job done in terms of what we brought him in for.

There’s also a difference between people saying they’d take 17th, they expect 17th, or they want 17th. I presume people know that?

To achieve 48+ points this season we require an average of 1.26 ppg.

Right now we're at 0.71 ppg.

So why do you still refuse to ever criticise the manager?

Thing is the players will buy it too.

If they’re hearing the same , it’s a good pint because of injuries , we are stretched etc in trining everyday , then they will start adopting the same mind set .

That was a good result at home considering our injuries , we didn’t create enough but it’s ok because we didn’t lose and that’s good because garner was out of position etc

I’m not saying we need another Martinez saying everyone is phenomenal but having high standards , demanding more , and having an actual pkan to try and develop our “ attacking” play should be the minimum that a manager should be instilling

Couldn't have put it better..

More chance of 48 points with dyche mind.
New manager could cause upheaval.

Players trust him and work hard for him

New slate end of the season and thank the gaffer for his hard work.

Dave , you constantly spout about how crap DCL is … and I agree . And how we should be aiming for better etc and you are constantly saying things ( I’m paraphrasing here) that are inline with “ we are Everton and should better”

You are saying that last season we had the 4th best defence … which is true . Other teams have improved , our rb is now 39 and Keane is now getting game time … it’s not the same defence anymore .

Dyche was brought in to keep us in the league … well he done that in his first 6 months ….

Then again last year….

So the target is the same this year?

Shouldn’t every year be to improve ? Build? Evolve ? Change ? At least try to do any of those things?

He’s changed nothing from an attacking point of view … hasn’t developed any players to improve them.

He has just resigned all the old has beens that he picks every week and played the same team , formation and style that he has always played .

He still Relies on corners , still can’t set a team up to win within the first weeks of a season , doesn’t have the players fit for the first game , and will not drop players that are costing us points unless he is forced too.

There is no point in backing him with funds in January …. Therefore we are better off getting someone new in and giving them time to change the style, learn the squad and then back them with funds … unless you feel we won’t need to strengthen in January as we will not be in the bottom 4-5?

If that’s the case keep him… but 5 points from 7 games without having the worst fixtures in the world … is less than a point a game and has us finishing on 35 points …. You think that’s good enough ?

If not… then make the call now and change it
If I’m a player on the market looking for a move, I simply wouldn’t join a Dyche Everton where other options existed - every game spending around 55-60 minutes of it on the back foot, entrenched in your own half running around chasing shadows. In possession the ball can cover the ground for you (if players can pass), without the ball the player does all the work. That’s why we looked buggered in the latter stages of most games certainly in midfield.
