I am in sales which is very target and outcome based.
The best mentor/ trainer I had said something to me that really effected the way I approached everything and it worked.
When moving onto commsion only pay.. I was working out how many sales a year I needed to survive , pay bills etc.
It worked out at around 6-7 sales a year. ( real estate)
He said that if you know your low number , it will form bad habits as when you think like that your mind will subconsciously settle for poor results and behaviours as long as you are meeting the target or are on track.
He was right, he then asked where I wanted to be and I said 40 sales a year. We put together a plan and sechdule and tasks and review dates and I will not hit 40 this year … but I hit 36.
If dyche is aiming for 4 points or 1.1 points a game for example … after a win he can afford not to gat any from the next 2 and still be on track … or he can not attack for the next 2 and if he gets even one draw he is “ahead”
Having low standards is infectious and is basically a “loser” or in his case “ don’t lose the game” mentality… and if his targets are based on getting 40 points or finishing 17th…
We can easily fail… other teams can get more than 40 points…. Injuries can effect games, referees , constant mind numbing football will have an effect on players and them “buying into” the strategy , the fans will get fed up and eventually turn , which effects the players on match day and can actually help the opposition.
I’m not saying he should be doing what bobby brown shoes and kompany were doing at Wigan and burnley and expect players like Titus bramble to pass the ball around like prime benkenbaur … but chaining your full back to the corner flag and having your wingers playing as full back while playing defensive midfleilders as number 10’s is taking safety first to the extreme and shows how limited and clueless he actual is
