2024/25 Sean Dyche

If I’m a player on the market looking for a move, I simply wouldn’t join a Dyche Everton where other options existed - every game spending around 55-60 minutes of it on the back foot, entrenched in your own half running around chasing shadows. In possession the ball can cover the ground for you (if players can pass), without the ball the player does all the work. That’s why we looked buggered in the latter stages of most games certainly in midfield.

That is another concern isn’t it ?

No half decent player that has other options would want to sign for us … the only reason they would is because we offered them 100k a week

I was being lazy, just did it myself.

0.57 points per game at this stage last season.
0.71 points per game this season.

Opposition have been more difficult this season, too.
Its mad how Sean Dyche’s team never picks up points at the early stages of the season, over his entire career, yet nobody seems to think that’s a major issue

The entire problem is circling the drain can only go on so long, and this gamble of “it’ll come” good is embarrassing

Yep that is a concern absolutely. Players want to join winning or at least competitive sides but knowing the style of football they’ll be playing and how they fit ‘into the managers plans’ are important in deciding a next move. I’m not sure our current style of play would be attractive to an awful lot of players (which is a pity because some passages of football this season have been good)

0.57 I think

Curious to see if I went back to those first 7 games though if you found issue with the manager.

Last season felt/was much worse than this.

First 3 games we'd conceded 6 without scoring, and that had Fulham and Wolves at home.

I expected us to be where we were prior to Leicester because I didnt think we'd get anything vs Brighton, or at Spurs or Villa away. Shared my view on here a few times.

Hopefully he also won’t have a 13 game winless run, which would help massively this season.

People bang on about that Peter, and I can't really blame them. Was shocking.

But, it's only fair to mention some good runs too. Like;

Narrator: But Everton was moved.

And the run in from April;

Expectations have dropped off because the owner stopped funding us, crippled us with debt, that debt and PS&R needs managing through a sell to buy/loan policy, and there’s no one steering the ship until the ownership situation is resolved. We’ve incurred two points deductions, sold most of our best players, are the only team turning a trading profit in the past 5 years and we’ve had to date two failed takeover attempts when in exclusivity periods.

Now do people think it might be all of those things that have people saying we need to stay afloat until the takeover occurs and we get revenues from the new stadium to give us room in the transfer market….

Or do people think ‘you know what I was hoping for 14th place this season but now that I’ve heard that Dyche press conference I’m specifically targeting 17th place as my only expectation for Everton’

Grow up.

For myself I maintain we’re capable of more than 48 points this season. I don’t think we’ll be in relegation trouble and it will be an orderly handover to new owners this season with Dyche going either at the point of handover or at the end of the season with job done in terms of what we brought him in for.

There’s also a difference between people saying they’d take 17th, they expect 17th, or they want 17th. I presume people know that?

All of those things were happening last season too when we finished technically 12th. So I’ll ask again, what over the course of this summer has caused our expectations to drop off so much that 17th is now acceptable?

Yep, ideally if we can go on one or two winning runs like last season but mitigate the longer winless run, we’ll be fine, but a lot of football needs to be played to see that happen. I was surprised that we were better off at the same number of games than last season (short term memory issues or selective amnesia 😄). I also find it interesting to see how we have fared in the corresponding fixtures vs last year but can’t be arsed doing it this time.

First 3 we'd conceded 6 without scoring, we eclisped that this season playing 2 games and conceding 7 without scoring... 3+ goals conceded 4 games on the spin.

Also dumped out of a cup straight away at a team not in the EFL who will be relegated this year.

I am certain we will finish mid table this season , unless the results fall off a cliff for a long number of games I think Dyche is secure in his job.

For me, the question is if he is doing enough to get to manage the club under ambitious new owners and with the new stadium coming onstream for next season and of that I am far from certain.

I think so.

Last season, from the first 7 league games we played 5 who ultimately finished bottom 8 of the league.

The only gut punch this season for me is Bournemouth. Fancied us to get a result, and we should have done.

Last season I expected us to get a result vs Fulham, Wolves, Luton - we lost all at home, an a poxy point Sheff Utd Away.

He's not.

But I have some sympathy - we have the slowest team in the league.

He come in, kept us up, achieved 48 points last season in desperate circumstances. All while making profit in the transfers.

Sure, critique but lets be fair.

The team needs some big investment. I'm hoping we stay out the bottom 3 come Jan, and then in a position to bring some pace/ability in the final third in.

I cannot believe people are asking this question.

I must be living in some alternate universe.

If we are anywhere near the bottom 3 come January then this manager will be sacked.
