Transfer Rumour Sean Longstaff

Bit of a difference between not getting games at City and not getting games at Newcastle.
Not really , he was written off as not good enough and too old and surplus to requirements at a team competing at the top end of the table … same as Gareth Barry was…. Different surroundings, circumstances, players and managers can benefit some players… I’m not for one minute saying he’s going to turn into Prime viera … but I’m just not gonna write the lad off before he’s kicked a ball.

I am not saying that is what I would value him at.

I am saying I would be surprised if they sold him for less than £25m, when they quoted £50m for him barely 2 years ago.

And if they are willing to accept even £10m for a 24 year old after a serious knee injury not too long ago, that would be a big worry.

No

He’s out of contract but even so he’s been bang average for years and they wouldn’t get more than £10-12 million regardless

And you know this how ? Roy Keane was in a forest midfield that got relegated … should United have written him off ?
Has anyone seen Keane and Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein in the same room together?

Has he been offered a contract at Newcastle? The article I read on Sky this morning gave the impression he hadn't even been offered one but they were willing to change their minds if he showed he deserved one but I don't know any more than that about it.

They turned down our offer mate.

They want him to stay.

Not hard to imagine how a player not good enough for a team competing for the title or champions league might be able to add something for a club just below that level. Bit harder to see how a player not good enough for a team in 19th is supposed to improve anybody else in the PL.

You could say that about Gray. Failed at a couple of clubs or didn't get the chance and is excellent for us.
But we knew what type of player he was - a pacy, skillful winger who likes to cut inside from the left.

I'm not disputing the quality on show. I just don't think Longstaff suddenly has the skillset to turn into the player our midfield actually needs to be cohesive.

No better than Tommy D. He's ok but no more than that, won't improve us at all.

Im not expecting him to be boss mate but the reality is fans want us to continue spending £15+ million per player then DCL or Richarlison will need to be sold as we're only signing the LB/RB for fees based on Dignes imminent departure.

If Longstaff can come in and do a job when required for a nominal fee / reasonable wages then thats a positive in my eyes.

I still think we need a boss CM alongside Doucoure and hope thats the priority in the summer but for now the squad needs padding out with more reliable players who can keep fit and do the basics in this league.
People are asking can he even do a job though. It's a fair question too really.

Personally I don't think he has ever quite got over his knee injury but then again he has not had much game time.

He is and we are the only club interested. Telling.
Cheers. So we pay them a pittance for him if we want him or they let him go for nothing at the end of the season. With Digne having a number of suiters we must have the upper hand in negotiations. This isn't me saying i want the lad here as I don't know enough about him but it looks like Benitez wants him so he'll probably be a blue by the end of January and if so I'll support him until/if he turns out to be a Rondon (fingers crossed he's not that bad i mean we couldn't buy another one thats that bad could we????)
