6/10. Several long awaited away wins at places where have historically struggled - most importantly Anfield. Cup win over Spurs a highlight. Dreadful home form which spoiled anything fancy regarding European qualification. Unfortunate with quarter final cup draws. Low point losing to nay being out-played (and out-fought) by already relegated Sheffield United. What promised a lot delivered not much - certainly in terms of a finishing position.

Sometimes the light is all shining on me,
Other times, I can barely see,
Lately it occurs to me,
What a long, strange trip it’s been.

Jerry Garcia sums it up quite nicely for me.

Just come across this uttering.
"Everton is a club never slow or shy of telling the world how right they get it off the field, but supporters have every right to ask when they might actually deliver something on it".
So says Phil McNulty of the BBC. On balance I think he might have nailed it.

The collapse in 2021 has been so thorough that it has undone everything that went before it. We scored only ten league goals in our last fourteen league games, and only more than one goal in a game on a single occasion during that run. Five teams who finished below us rolled us at Goodison, and Leeds 1-0 win there eventually saw them finish ahead of us altogether.

Against the Geordies, Fulham and Burnley we took four points from eighteen.

I believe Ancelotti can suitably motivate and prepare this mess for games against the higher profile teams. But it was probably as long ago aas Moyes that our form against teams in the lower half of the table has been truly adequate. This has to be an application and conventration issue, at least in part.

1) A proper Captain
2) Apump action shotgun for said proper Captain
3) formal dispensation from God himself for said proper captain to use said pump action shotgun on any player who doesnt come off the field having given his all for his team mates, for his shirts and for us poor downtrodden gets, who pay our paltry spare dosh to watch them ruin our weekends!

You can see six or seven home matches which we would normally have been expected to win. Even if we'd won five of them we'd have finished second or third and qualified for the CL. But it didn't happen.
