Chants of a "possible discriminatory" nature by England fans during their World Cup semi-final defeat by Croatia, are being investigated by Fifa.

It relates to the chanting of "no surrender" by England fans and other potentially discriminatory songs.

"We can confirm that a report has been filed in relation to chants of a possible discriminatory nature by English fans," said Fifa.

"Proceedings have been opened against The Football Association."

England were beaten 2-1 in Moscow after extra-time as they attempted to reach a first World Cup final since 1966.

They will end their tournament with a third/fourth place play-off against Belgium in St Petersburg on Saturday.

On Wednesday the FA was fined 70,000 Swiss francs (£50,000) after Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Raheem Sterling wore "unauthorised" socks after ignoring a Fifa warning to stop.

The players wore branded ankle support socks over official Nike socks, "breaching media and marketing regulations and the Fifa equipment regulations".

Doping tests negative
Fifa announced on Thursday that so far all doping tests conducted before and during the World Cup have yielded negative results.

Since January 2018, a total of 2,037 tests have been conducted, Fifa said. On average, every player from the four remaining teams has been tested four times since January, with some of tested up to eight times.

Fined 50k for wearing the wrong socks.

"The Russian Football Union has been fined £22,000 for racist chants by fans in March's friendly with France."

Seems legit.

Alladyce could have managed wins over Tunisia, Panama, Sweden and may have fluked a penalty shootout win.
Love how when we lose a penalty shootout it is “England players mentally can’t cope, they are bottlers”, yet as soon as we win one it is dismissed as a fluke not worth noticing.

There is always an element of luck with penalties, even great players like Ronaldo and Messi can mess them up. But none of our players did as all 5 of England’s penalties were decent even if Henderson’s was saved - that takes regular training.

Similarly Pickford has a good record on saving penalties - he does his research on the takers, is athletic and has fast reactions.

The history of England in penalty shootouts is well known which will have substantially increased the pressure above that experienced by all players so find it a bit bizarre to just dismiss the whole thing as a random quirk of fate.

Of course the true test will be if they can repeat it in future tournaments - although not sure my nerves will cope lol

So you agree that Big Sam could have won those games too then.
Nice one.

As expected, English fans can't be trusted, whether its destroying medical services cars or chants like this. Imagine being proud to support them?
I found the throwing in the air of single use plastic drinks containers rather unsavoury in the cities of the U.K. Also.

I guess the average England fan didn't watch Attenborough early this year, X Factor was probably on the other side.

No, I am absolutely convinced that Allardyce would have not won at least one on the first two matches by being ridiculously defensive and settling for a “draw is a good result at this stage” or even a last minute loss as he got all players behind the ball.

I also don’t think he would have improved their mentality on penalty shootouts - think Southgate’s own trauma was probably quite helpful on the training ground.

They are the most embarrassing fans aside from Russian ones.

Nah, Big Sam would have won those games, and would have closed out that game last night.
Martinez and Southgate, both relagated managers from the Prem, both proving not up to it in a semi final was no surprise here whatsoever.

We’ll have to agree to disagree mate - I’d take either manager over Allardyce any day of the week, if only so I didn’t fall asleep during a match!

It's always just under the surface.

That's why it was absurd for that waistcoated turnip head Southgate to make the claim that the national team reflect a multicultural society. A nobhead statement that sounded great for the media to spin, but just as fake as the man who uttered it.

I am proud. Always will be. Proud of Everton also and they certainly have idiots at every game. Minority idiots will always be there regardless who the club or country is. Wasn't the ambulance person a Scottish woman?

some of the big named players didn't really do much all tournament, especially starters like delle ali, jordan henderson and raheem sterling (to an extent)

southgate was praised by many for dropping rooney, making kane captain trying to build around a young squad, but he's no better than the previous managers who relied on big named players like gerrard, lampard, ferdinand, terry etc.

if a player is performing badly for the national team, he should be dropped for the national team.

Southgate didn't have the balls to drop any of his poor performing players, he bottled it.
