You say yourself we have so few quality players.
Genuine question how many players do you think we need this summer?

For me it’s not 2 or 3. It 6 .And it would be fantastic if we had the money To buy them all and could just get rid of some of the rubbish in the squad to help fund it.

But if that’s not the case a one of our better players need to go. Then Digne is the obvious one.

If we don’t get enough quality in this summer, the we will lose Digne anyway and Richarlison, maybe even Ancelotti.

We need about 8 new players but I see it as a 2 season job. We've tried signing 8 or 9 players before but the chances of that working are close to zero.

I want 3 or 4 good players in the right positions. I dont want to have to add to that with sales as well. I want to be positive but I am struggling to have any faith in our recruitment strategy. The more we spend the worse we seem to get so I want to see more sensible summers where there is logic to our approach and no last minute panic buying.

I wouldn’t trust brands. If he sold Digne he’d spend the money on some dross. He sanctioned the iwobi deal ffs.
We either keep Digne and make some minor adjustments to the squad and hope for 8-12th next season, or we get our cocks out sell him, make big reinvestment and hope something sticks with who we bring in. It's the only way a club like ours can progress.

3 players won’t touch the sides with this team

The truth is this squad needs an overhaul and LB isn't a position we should have 60/70m worth of investment. We need to spread that out across the pitch, if we could get Gabriel, Reggy and Allan for near enough one player then it's worth it.

Thats a spot on post.

For a side sitting anywhere outside the top 4 having £60-70mil worth of full back doesnt make sense financially. Were stuffed on FFP by all accounts and have perhaps decent 7 players in a 23 man squad.

Digne, Richarlison and Holgate are our 3 best players imo. We cant afford to lose Richarlison and Holgate is our leader at the back with both of them only 23.

Digne is 27 and at his peak sale value. If we sold him and replaced with Reguilon and Gabriel then we have

???
??? Holgate(23) Gabriel(22) Reguilon(23)

If we could sell Digne for Gabriel + Reguilon + a right back of similar age then we have 1 star player out and potentially 3 star players in.

We would also have north of £100mil in FFP room after those 3 signings which solves that issue as well.

We dont need a centre half.

We need a left back even if Digne stays, so then we need 2 if he leaves.

Reguilon is a risky signing. There is no guarantee he quickly adapts to English football.

Sorry mate i totally disagree with you and 99% of the forum on this.

Experienced starters we have:

DCL/
Richarlison
Holgate
Digne

Thats 4 positions (hopefully Kean/ Gordon / Branthwaite develop)

We need to upgrade 7 starting positions and also the rest of the squad.

Now, i absolutely love Lucas Digne. He, Holgate and Richarlison are my favourite players by a country mile.

However were 12th and unless we spend big or smart were not getting anywhere fast + we arent allowed to spend big due to FFP.

If we have a choice of;

Average age: 27

???
Coleman Keane Holgate Digne
OR

Average age: 22.25

???
Emerson Holgate Gabriel Reguilon

Then weve gone from a failing back 4 unit at its peak age to a high potential back 4.

Ideally we keep Digne but if the deals happen then id be more confident overall with the second selection that we're building a new side to win things.

Its time to twist.

Richarlison, Kean, DCL, Digne, Gordon, Branthwaite, Holgate...perhaps Mina.

Thats 7/8 players who could be in a top 4 / 6 squad of 23.

I dont think we 'need' 6 or 7 players...we 'need' 15/16 players for the squad.

We probably 'need' 7 starters.

Digne out for Reguilon + Gabriel + Emerson*

Rolls the dice and we may go from 7/8 to 10/11 quality players very quickly.

Its the only thing we can do.

*Emerson is my pick but it could be Aarons or another quality player with very high potential

If Moshiri bought arguably the best manager in Europe it was because the club needed expert attention and quick.

Flogging a 27 year old left back and buying a [Poor language removed] hot 23rd to replace him makes sense as does complete surgery of the squad. I have no idea of Carlo's plans but if I were he, I would get Brands to unload the dead wood - after all he bought some of that dead wood - and I would concentrate on getting a youngish team together that in a year or two could be a contender.

Maybe that's why he seems to be giving Moishe Kean more time. Carlo has an excellent reputation and would not have taken the job if he did not think that getting EFC to the top was achievable.

This lad is definitely on the move and if we were in for him then Digne is going. If we’re not in for him I’d rather we as a club just made a little statement on rumours like this saying we’re not (some clubs do it) just so the fans and even Digne know what the crack is. Tired of agents using Everton’s money to fish for contracts/transfers.

Digne: “I love the direction of Carlo Ancelotti. I have no doubts we will be challenging for Europe soon.”

Also Digne: “When’s the next flight to London?”

Can someone ( @Zatara ) explain how selling Digne and buying this kid gives you FFP headroom to spend £100 million as has been suggested.
