Sergio Reguilon

Thats a spot on post.

For a side sitting anywhere outside the top 4 having £60-70mil worth of full back doesnt make sense financially. Were stuffed on FFP by all accounts and have perhaps decent 7 players in a 23 man squad.

Digne, Richarlison and Holgate are our 3 best players imo. We cant afford to lose Richarlison and Holgate is our leader at the back with both of them only 23.

Digne is 27 and at his peak sale value. If we sold him and replaced with Reguilon and Gabriel then we have

???
??? Holgate(23) Gabriel(22) Reguilon(23)

If we could sell Digne for Gabriel + Reguilon + a right back of similar age then we have 1 star player out and potentially 3 star players in.

We would also have north of £100mil in FFP room after those 3 signings which solves that issue as well.

Sorry mate i totally disagree with you and 99% of the forum on this.

Experienced starters we have:

DCL/
Richarlison
Holgate
Digne

Thats 4 positions (hopefully Kean/ Gordon / Branthwaite develop)

We need to upgrade 7 starting positions and also the rest of the squad.

Now, i absolutely love Lucas Digne. He, Holgate and Richarlison are my favourite players by a country mile.

However were 12th and unless we spend big or smart were not getting anywhere fast + we arent allowed to spend big due to FFP.

If we have a choice of;

Average age: 27

???
Coleman Keane Holgate Digne
OR

Average age: 22.25

???
Emerson Holgate Gabriel Reguilon

Then weve gone from a failing back 4 unit at its peak age to a high potential back 4.

Ideally we keep Digne but if the deals happen then id be more confident overall with the second selection that we're building a new side to win things.

Its time to twist.

worth a bump! Digne is my single favorite player in the team... but the bigger picture is more important

Don't you love it ? One comment in a report the heads start wobbling -again- Brands gets it -again- the whole place in in meltdown .
We want to buy ay least 6 players ,according to some but every one linked is rubbish, too slow or needs to be played out of position !
Get a grip lads and lasses or it is going to be heart attacks all round.

Does sound to be more of the type of player we are supposed to be signing, age wise and potential bring on some more. But I know nothing about him apart from what I've just read. I would hope Carlos is having an influence on signings...

Can someone ( @Zatara ) explain how selling Digne and buying this kid gives you FFP headroom to spend £100 million as has been suggested.

A: We sell Digne for £70mil.

B: We bought him for £18mil over a 5 year deal. Thats £3.6m = £10.8mil

C: £70mil - £10.8mil = £59.2mil this is immediately shown for this year on our books.

D: Lets say we want to sign one player for £59.2mil fee. We give that player a 5 year contract which is £11.84mil a year on the books.

1st year £11.84mil
2nd year £11.84mil
3rd year £11.84mil
4th year £11.84mil
5th year £11.84mil

So that means of the total £59.2mil this year we have only spent £11.84mil (next year onwards the same)

£59.2mil - £11.84mil= £47.36mil

E: We still have £47.36mil transfer budget where we can do the same again...

F: 2 caveats;
1: The wages also come onto / off the books
2: The annual payments for transfers have to be covered over the 5 seasons

But that is FFP.

Thank you , I'm just a simple ( retired ) solicitor I don't understand these financial shenanigans.
BTW your suggestion that we can get £70 m for LD is optimistic in the extreme , but I get the idea.

Mendy (City) left back €57.5mil from Monaco
Mendy (Madrid) left back €48mil from Lyon

Cancelo (City) right back €65mil from Juventus
Wan Bissaka (right back) £45mil from Palace

I would suggest that Wan-Bissaka was coming from Palace and only had one season in the league.

Cancelo was a decent fee from Juve.

The two left backs came from France where fees should be lower (relatively unproven).

There should be a premium for Digne who is one of the top left backs in the league (and europe). He would walk into City or Chelseas teams and be one of their, if not the best defender in their team.

What price do you put on that for a side looking for a title win?

Maguire / Van Dijk / Hernandez / De Ligt all went for over €80mil.

In negotiations id be asking for £70-£80mil. It may drop a bit but we would be close to £70mil and a world record for a full back.

@Zatara

I am no expert in player valuations but Mendy is regularly picked for France ahead of Lucas.

I can't see Chilwell going for more than £65 million and think that LD's valuation will be lower than Chilwell because of age and nationality / home grown etc. I actually think that Chilwell is a better player but most on here with blue tintewd specs won't agree.

IMO ( what the hell do I know ) you might get between £50-60 m for Lucas - still a tremendous profit .....BUT one of our best 2 players and probably ( not big on stats nor looked this up ) our leading chance creator / assist providor.

Is this Sergio kid his equal ? Without having seen him play I have no idea - but it sounds like he has the potential to develop into a really top talent.

And that is the crux of the problem with this philosophy. You are buying potential against an established player.

Hopefully this lad comes and does well. The experiment with Kean has not paid off yet ( he has some more time but I suspect not much ) .

So the stategy brings risks but given our possible finances and more pertinently FFP ( thank you for the explanation ) it may be the only way we can build a team.

I think its either fake news or we'll try and get both in at LB / LM.

Dont think we would be selling Digne but if we did it could cover Reguilon + Gabriel + new right back fees outright.

Lets see what happens.

No reports from Spain at all, unlike Braithwaite.
But let's sell Digne and play Delph at left back to go well with conspiracy. :p

I hope it's not the case but if we did need to sell one of our best assets - and lets be honest the only players we could sell for serious profit are either Digne or Richarlison i would sell Digne. If that was the sacrifice needed for Carlo to build his team and a team he genuinely thought would push for the top 6 then absolutely. Problem is we are Everton and nothing would be that straight forward. Again i hope we won't sell Digne and i haven't seen any stories linking him anywhere.

Its one we didn't really look at as a burning priority, but a position we've been strong in for a few seasons. Be interesting to see what happens with Digne, but i think Carlo has said in the past he likes one full back position advanced and the other that more solid, if the left is going to be key, then it makes sense to have two quality left fulls. Lets see.

That would make a RW who can progress with the ball important as at the Moment out right side is impotent
