Yep. Let's be honest El Fraudo didn't just sign Tarashaj and this guy. Alcaraz was probably the worst CB I have ever seen , and he had managed him before !. There were so many others.
He got lucky as he inherited a great team from Moyes , and loaned Lukaku. That got him off to a honeymoon period. The board (unusually at that time) backed the manager and Lukaku became easily our record signing , if memory serves me correctly. Thereafter all downhill..

It had nothing to do with luck. He had a great first season. McCarthy, Barry, Stones and Lukaku were tremendous signings.

His other two seasons were pretty crap though. It happens, there doesn't have to be a reason for his first season being a good one.

I would guess just paid off.
I don't think the manager wants anyone that he thinks should not be there.
