I always think we could do more for our history. Instead of the Liver Bird, how about we get together with the other founding members of the football league and design a logo we can all use on our team kits etc.

Not only will it annoy the Reds but we also get one up on United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs as well.

Arent the majority of the other founders all skint!

I don't suppose they've gained any fans directly through them just having it as a logo. From that perspective I'm happy with the tower. Let them have it.

Would those that want it want rid of the tower?

People in Britain are all too aware that there are 2 teams in the city of Liverpool no matter how many liver birds they see.

Besides, I wouln't consider the Liver bird to be the defining symbol of the city. You're aware of it because you are well versed in our club's history and obviously the local rivalry and culture to an extent that most people aren't.

The advantages they have over us from a marketing perspective, are
1.the fact they, and they alone as a club share the name of the city,
2. their greater success on the field
3. seemingly a better marketing team within the club

Point 3, I would hope Moshiri is in the process of changing.
Point 2, I hope and pray that one day we'll change
Point 1, will not feasibly change. And personally, I wouldn't want it too.

I'm convinced that points 2 and 3 are far more important.

Certainly turned into an interesting thread though mate.

Naturally we wouldn't want to change the name of the club, but there is no question them having the name of the city is a big advantage. If Houlding had called the club Anfield FC for example they wouldn't be instantly identifiable with the city...both clubs would have been on a level playing field. Outside Evertonians, when people say Liverpool they think of one club. We don't even get the usual Scouse jibes they do...again, they have that instant name/geographic recognition. It's bizarre to us but we are almost seen as outsiders in the city to people not from Liverpool. The profile is affected.

some do not see this to be a problem. i think if they would put pride aside it would be easily seeable. im not saying it's bad to be proud but sometimes it can halt progress.

You know what I'm going to drop a line to the club and maybe the Fans Forum as well and suggest it. See what happens.

My guess would be that the PL will not allow a non PL logo thing on the shirts, and will more likely say "Good idea, the funding clubs of the PL can have one though"

Undoubtedly.
My whole point though, was that use of the Liver bird is not really a big issue in relation to increased marketing or raising our profile as a club.

Would be interesting to hear the views of fans of other clubs on this subject. Obviously match going fans all over the country will be aware of where we're from. The reality of course is that, from a marketing point of view, we have to take into account world wide tv coverage and the fact that millions of viewers have never set foot in England, let alone Liverpool.
