Ok thats your take on this matter concerning 'outsiders' but what about people inside national fronteers?
Doesnt it bother you at all that british people who walk in the beautiful city of Liverpool see liverbirds all over the place and voluntarely or not assosiate it - the city - only to the LFC?

Think the clue is in the name of the City to be honest mate.

They beat us to that one
*cringe at their lack of shame

Unfortunately for them, they lost that one. Let's wait until we win a trophy and then stage an actual photo of four of our players walking across that crossing holding the cup.

People in Britain are all too aware that there are 2 teams in the city of Liverpool no matter how many liver birds they see.

Besides, I wouln't consider the Liver bird to be the defining symbol of the city. You're aware of it because you are well versed in our club's history and obviously the local rivalry and culture to an extent that most people aren't.

The advantages they have over us from a marketing perspective, are
1.the fact they, and they alone as a club share the name of the city,
2. their greater success on the field
3. seemingly a better marketing team within the club

Point 3, I would hope Moshiri is in the process of changing.
Point 2, I hope and pray that one day we'll change
Point 1, will not feasibly change. And personally, I wouldn't want it too.

I'm convinced that points 2 and 3 are far more important.

Certainly turned into an interesting thread though mate.

Since Victorian times, Man Utd's crest has depicted a ship in full sail, which is a reference to Manchester's trading base and to the Manchester Ship Canal. And since the 1950s, many of the concourses of Old Trafford have been adorned with sailing ship murals.

Guess which club co-opted the sailing ship symbol in the 1960s...

I've lost count of the number of times that I've had to inform British people that Everton Football Club is in the city of Liverpool. And I remember former England international Tim Sherwood saying something along the lines of "The Southampton-Portsmouth city derby is really fierce. You'd never get anyone walking around Portsmouth in a Southampton shirt, or vice-versa. I remember going to Liverpool city centre and seeing people from Everton openly wearing their club's shirt. I was amazed. That could never happen with the south coast derby".

To be fair, Timmy is an utter moron and perhaps not the best example of anything

Maybe you should care?
Everton voluntarely letting them have it gives them edge -especially internationally I suppose- from marketing perspective and also cause of it they are associated with the city with straight correlation to the bird.
They are associated with the city because they are called Liverpool, with or without the Liverbird.

As for giving them an edge, are you kidding me? If we did adopt it where would we use it? There's no room on
our badge unless we replace Rupert's Tower and I won't go into that.

We're not that far apart in football terms over the last decade and I don't think the Liverbird emblem is going
to make the difference. I'm more pissed off with Watford running out to Z Cars.

Ive already said that I didnt mean that I would stick the bird into our padge. But we definitely should use it other ways, though

You serious? You do know about us being tenants and not paying the rent? It's never worked for me, then again I've never met a RS who didn't know about the rent. It does get brought up by them...tho they often spin it as "not being able to pay the rent" (as opposed to us refusing to pay the extortionate amount) and we were turfed out and the owner formed Liverpool.

Imagine we had paid the rent...one club city, dominant, unrivalled. We would have been a powerhouse. Saying nothing new here as its been mentioned plenty of times previously.
You should know better than to perpetuate this myth they love to peddle over the park that we didn't pay the rent.

For those who don't know their history, the landlord put the rent up, massively, in 1888. Everton left Anfield three
years later. You can get away with not paying the rent for a while, but three years?

I always think we could do more for our history. Instead of the Liver Bird, how about we get together with the other founding members of the football league and design a logo we can all use on our team kits etc.

Not only will it annoy the Reds but we also get one up on United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs as well.

That would be class.

Yeah, but this is Tim "I don't believe in defensive midfielders" Sherwood we're talking about. Not exactly Mastermind material.
