thanks for the explanation everybody

I knew the tower was a local landmark, but I didn't realize what it was actually for. kinda cracks me up now

Everton have never, ever been any good at marketing themselves, whereas that lot instantly and literally put themselves on the map by incorporating the name of the city and the emblem. People all around the world have heard of Liverpool, the city, but how many know where Everton is? On the other hand, few can say exactly where the various London teams are located, other than somewhere in the general London metropolis. Fortunately, no one team thought so big of themselves as to call themselves London FC (did they?).
The point is, a team makes its mark through success, not from big city geography, although no doubting it helps. Until we start dominating were it really matters again, on the field of play, then we will always have a hard time convincing the world that we are THE MAIN and original team of the city of Liverpool, no matter which way the Liverbird flies.
As for the Liverbird, I vote for it, as a provocative statement, especially after the stadium is built, and we have beaten that lot on that new hallowed turf, (please God, the thought of them beating us in our new stadium, does not even bare thinking about!). The symbol would take the form of a Coat Of Arms consisting of a huge blue Liverbird standing dominantly on the neck of a small defeated red bird, with the words "There is only one Original".
Either way, Everton need to do something about getting the brand out there. So far, they have failed miserably.

i would separate city and lfc in this matter totally. it's a robbery happening infront of our very eyes.

I would imagine most fans outside of the North West of England see that bird on their crest in much the same way I see the Spurs cockrel, the Palace eagle, and the Norwich canary.

Just part of a badge. Attached to a football club, not a city.

That seems to be something the out of city fans fail to understand .........

are cockrel, eagle or canary symbols of the cities that these clubs come from? theres a substance difference here.

excellent post. we are letting them benefit and engulf the symbol that is as much of ours than theirs. bad marketing or what.
like someone said before i hope our marketing department uses it more and more.

Dont know, dont care. But I know they are associated with the club. Like most of the rest of the world do with LFC and the bird on their badge I would imagine.

LFC doesnt own liverbird. They are getting huge marketing and imago advantage compared to Everton football club.

Should we do it ? Or is it a stupid idea?

Personally I think we should boldly start to use and utilise the blue liverbird.

I'd say No.

Like it or loathe it, as far as football goes the Liver Bird image is now subconsciously associated with our noisy neighbours so I think we should just concentrate on us.
