Should Ferguson have stayed as a coach or should he have looked to manage elsewhere?

Maybe, but I've seen some pretty poor comments about him that isn't deserved.
I agree it's time to move on and show us what you've got though.
He wont ever do that mate.

The Everton gravy train cant run out of track for him.

I'd love to know how much he's screwed out of this club.

A "bang average draw away at OT"
We've won once at old trafford in 30 years. What were you expecting, a guarenteed win?

No, but a bit of ambition would have been decent.

It was classic Moyes "Keep it tight and hope for a breakaway" (without the hope of a breakaway)

I like Duncan, I have met him several times away from Everton. If he's serious about managment, he needs to go and do it.

It was just the bang average bit.
The reason he's ever caretaker manager is because we are..er..bang average. Possibly even worse.

To be honest, if he's not gone out looking for the manager job at another club by now, then we know he's happy where he is.

The club needs a coach who can take over for a game or so in an emergency and provide continuity behind the scenes. I hope this role is not needed soon.

That's fine by me, but he's never going to be managing Everton.
Sometimes you would get the Director of Football stepping in and overseeing the team for a few games.

Even if we had one in place though, I wouldn't foresee that at Everton.

Have to hope that Ferguson is not needed in a caretaker capacity again anytime soon.

If he is intent on staying here come what may, you'd wonder how many times he would fill this role. It seems it would be diluted everytime he does it from now on, the fist-pumping can only carry you along a bit the first time you do it, particularly if everyone knows he doesn't have a chance of getting the job.

My guess is Lampard has “agreed” to keep him onboard until the end of the season, then he’ll be off! Clearly now on the back bench or second row when it comes to Lampard’s staff. If, and it’s getting to be a big if, he ever really wants to manage this club he needs to go and dip his toe in the managerial pool somewhere else and actually prove to himself first he can do it!

Bradford City just sacked their manager, perfect job for him if he wants to step down and build his way up

I wonder if he'll be tempted away from Everton to prove himself as a manager or he'll refuse to apply and prefer to stay here and hope he one day gets the permanent Everton job under freak circumstances?

Let me think...

I think some of the above comments about him wanting to stay on the Everton gravy train are massively excessive and over simplified.

I think Ferguson has stayed too long but I have no doubt about his passion for the club and his desire to want the best for us as fans. He will have been useful to Frank to get some information on what Ferguson has seen over the past few years I am sure. However, I think he does need to leave at the end of the season to prove himself somewhere else.

If we are pointing fingers at anyone inside the club who are taking a lot for very little then I think we need to be looking at David Unsworth who seems to get promoted every 6 months. It's almost as if he knows about a few skeletons and is untouchable.

Not being good enough to be Everton manager isn't something we should hold against him.

If he's content with being a coach, and if he's good enough - then it's win/win for the club.

He's been credited as being an excellent coach by two of our better strikers in recent times in Lukaku/Calvert-Lewin.

And if reports are true, Ancelotti offered him a role at Madrid.

Not everyone is cut out to be a manager - see Peter Taylor / Brian Kidd.
