Stats wise maybe, the eye test has them completely different.

You didn't answer my question either, had someone said to you get Allardyce in to replace him (say the summer) Would you have gone for it ? No probably not is my guess. So why now ? Cos he's boss atm ? Spurs do that and we're not them. He's flavour of the month, whats going to happen when his best players go off to the AFCON and they get found ? Even if we're still [Poor language removed] and they start dropping off, will you say Allardyce is so much better than Martinez ?
i dont want allardyce to replace him

by the end of martinez everon tenure he will have a comparable ratio to Sam at bolton/west ham though. Thats my prediction. Joke we appointed someone with so little experience really.

I'm not sure it's shirking responsibility but they look scared to take a punt and gamble. RM is responsible for this as he has obviously drummed into them to keep the ball and play backwards rather than taking a risk.

Last season we played without fear or shakles, completely the opposite this season
I'm not sure. There's a difference in keeping possession (which is what Martinez wants) and keeping possession to a point where you press. Last season we got ourselves into the final third and then tried stuff; this season we get there and freeze. Look at Barkley today: last season (or even just after he got back this season) he'd have pulled the trigger or tried to slalom his way through the last defenders. Today he's like a rabbit frozen in the headlights with the ball at his feet. It's absolutely pitiful what's happened to these players. They're petrified to make a mistake. They need to show some bottle RIGHT NOW and individually take responsibility to make things happen and not rely on someone else (usually Mirallas or Barkley) to make things happen. I'd like to think we have people behind the scenes kicking their arses and getting into their heads on this.

Absolutely ridiculous to be asking this question, and even more to be even considering responding 'yes'!

Despite any misgivings I have about Martinez's approach this season (see below) it is the players, more than the manager, that have themselves to look at here. They have been putting in disjointed performances all season long. Some of this can be absolved due to the huge tactics shake-up after the first few games and the fact our style of football has gone from attractive to absolute crap. Our attacking, passing game is absolutely non-existent. Even the reporter on Sky Sports News today was exasperated at how 8 minutes into injury time, we were knocking the ball around without seemingly any idea of what to do with it. I think this sums up our season this far.

Some of the 'interest' shown by the players out there lately harks back to the Walter Smith days. Not a pleasant thought.

As I said, I am not absolving Martinez entirely. His bizarre selections like Hibbert at left-back and questionable dealings in the transfer market have done him no favours. Although I think he can be excused with Lukaku, as based on his performances last year and his goals, any manager would have fought to sign him. But he is now looking uninterested and some of Mourinho's criticisms of him (or should I say 'warnings') seem to ringing very true right now.

I know Coleman has been injured for many parts of the season but when he has been fit, it is quite noticeable there has been a huge reduction in his marauding runs down the right wing. Likewise with Baines on the left. Has this been sacrificed to 'shore up' at the back? If it has, then it is not working. We continue to have the same defensive problems, now with less attacking threat!

An interesting parallel, after a poor performance by the Republic of Ireland national team a few months back, the tv panel in the studio were bemoaning how Martin O'Neill appears to curb Coleman's attacking flair. They praised Martinez and how he let Seamus express himself and his attacking side. This was based on last season and some earlier performances this season. It appears now that Martinez has got him playing the O'Neill way.

Why is this then?

Martinez has always got his teams to play attractive, passing football. Even if it cost them at the back, and he never backed down on this. The fact that we appear to have abandoned this now, is perplexing. The early season debacle is over now.

Is it that the players we have simply aren't capable? Has Martinez has changed his style of game of his own accord? Or have other influences on the club have leaned on Martinez to 'adapt' his style of play, in order to gain results over style. The results haven't been forthcoming since the adoption of the less attacking style either way!

As for McGeady, I doubt for one second he would have made any difference today. He has been part of some of our other pitiful performances this year. His occasional good delivery is far outweighed by his senseless dribbling, poor passing and resulting loss of possession.

I voted no.

That said, there's more to coaching a decent side than hanging a few historic pictures around the training ground and shaking hands with supporters. We need a bit of bite, urgency and intensity. I'm not sure if mr nice Martinez has that in his coaching locker. He has 6 months to show a plan b.

Btw, talk of relegation is nonsense, almost as bad has rm's post match interviews.

Hello friends, I am back in my hotel after my usual tapas in the central eating area which has become a scene of many white, like explosion in the cocaine factory.
I am glad I am finding this forum on the new flat tablet, after I was walking from the winderslow bar a man in Glad Ladys Street tells me how to find where to speak about the blues as I was not the computer man before I was gifted the Samsung Galaxy S4 on the last christmas festive.

I am finding to agree with the person Davek who say that players are cowardice I feel just like the lion from the Oz wizard, but my feeling is Mr Martinez is being the scarecrow with the lack of the brain in same movie.

Now that my proteins are rejuvenated I am feeling very much more like happy as I think of our place in Europe football and I am specially looking forward to the battle with the possible Liverpool, or Roma, Napoli from Italy, or the sports of Lisbon. I feel we can compete if the war of the dogs is returned instead of the poodles of the parlour, I have bet my life that we progress well to the eufa final, I want it to be my finest bet, and my first win.

My purchased movie is about to be starting so I will bid you Adieu, and so glad to be finding the blues forum, regards, Terence.

You know there is no one "behind the scenes " to kick bums he bottled it after Arse. Chelsea and Palace s etc A diabolical pre season But thats Ok Dave cos you want BK out ...Close the Fears of Witch hunt Thread because its now Embarrassing

It is understandable this questions being asked, we are playing badly at the moment. For me Martinez stays, but he has a lot of work to do and is facing his biggest challenge.

The biggest myth to emerge from the Moyes Era, was that he underachieved. That he was sitting on a squad full of world beaters who's dour style prevented storming the league. Of course, at times was dour and at times he probably could have done better. Towards the end he should have given Barkley a chance. However the core problems facing us were not of Moyes's doing.

Martinez is going to need to clear out the likes of Osman, Peinaar, Distin, Howard etc and rebuild. This season he will need to do that.

As for changing the manager, the suggestions veer between the unrealistic to the ridiculous. Klopp would never come to us. Allardyce would be a backwards step.

Give Martinez this season. Let him assess the squad, hopefully make the changes that need to be made and see what happens next season. Stability is beneficial to the club and throwing managers out to get Allardyce is not the way forward.

Can we stop these polls immediately after a bad result?!

Silly.

there have been quite a few now, and it's more the performances and manner of the results. We're six points off the relegation zone, we're going to newcastle on sunday then have hull away new years day, if we don't manage to pick up at least 3 points from them two games we will be really in the thick of it.

Good god no! We have a great manager building a special team. Our results were much better than expected last year, and this year, they are worse. It happens. The players are just having a bad run right now, but I haven't heard anything about the players not wanting to play for him, unless that is what Distin's little tantrum a month or so ago was about.

Stand by our talent and our people. Part of what made moyes great for us was the stabilility of the system. The team is just lacking confidence and having a rough time with injuries. They will work their way through it.
