I don't want to get into a 'mine is better than yours' debate. Who is the richest man in the world? Who is the biggest software company in the world? Microsoft is where it is for a reason. They can't please everybody, so they concentrate on pleasing the masses, which isn't me and you or Suits.

Lets not go and say Apple is the pioneer here either, because, from what I remember, Creative was the first big player with MP3 players. (Yes I know Apple had the first GUI OS, but lets face it, it sucked and Windows sold much much better).

I love Microsoft for the xBox console (and the 360). I would have to say Sony went and copied the Xbox idea in their PS3 (addition of the HDD and online play)

I remember the 640Mb Creative Jukebox back around 2000. It was the size of a Discman!! Ahh, those where the days!!

Well Dylan, what actually happened was Mr Gates and Mr Jobs were working together on an OS. Apple used to be huge, and Microsoft were tiny. Gates was naughty and Jobs was naive.

Gates is a brilliant businessman but he is no way a pioneer, he has copied everything that OS did. Just flipped it the other way around.

Microsoft were clever and could see a gap in the market and they exploited it. While Apple guys were smoking pot and getting wasted, they missed the boat.

Then Jobs came back, developed the iMac and bridged the gap between the home computer and style. Since then the company has released great software with some cool interfaces. Then there was the iPod which is sweet, iTunes and iTunes store which is cool, now the iPhone which is amazing.

What has Bill Gates done? Not much, the seed was sown with Windows 95, and people don't like change.

Never said Gates was a pioneer, and I know he copied the GUI format. He just sold it better, like you said. iMacs are still too expensive. PC's are for the masses and Macs will be for the specialized crowds (video editing etc etc) like it was back in the day, with tons of audio stuff being done on the Atari ST.

As for the iPhone, Apple can take that and shove it. $600 for a touch screen phone. Woooo, there are tons out there. Plus they bully a company, who owns the trademark for the iPhone. Just like Microsoft would do. My point is, they aren't too far apart in the way they do business, Microsoft and Apple. Just, Microsoft doesn't pretend to be your friend like Apple does before they kick you.

Why have Apple kicked you?

The iPhone is more than just a touch phone.

I have used both Windows and OSX and I had no end of trouble with Windows, and everytime I visit with a friend who has Windows, they have [Poor language removed] loads of apps they don't need which drains the memory. They are chock full of adaware, they need to defrag every month.

The reasons why iMac's are more expensive, and I wouldn't say £800 is expensive for a computer, is because they are better made.

I'm not some Apple evangelist, but I have used both and have based my opinions on my experiences. Apple is used in government buildings, movie production, sports science installations, designers, etc.... The reason? They are robust and easy to use. Ironically, people who want an easy machine to use tend to pick a PC and Windows, which is the reason why viruses spread, and I get called by most of my family asking me to fix their sodding computer.

I just say get an Apple, I will give you a quick ten minute whistle tour and you will be set for the next two years.

Its all about holes in the system, for which there are none. And if they are they are patched immediately.

I suppose you are right in a way, viruses are spread by idiots opening emails they shouldn't and so on. Maybe its best as is, so the idiots don't [Poor language removed] up my OS. ;)
