Silly Season January 2014

Rodallega scored the goal that kept them up one season, think it was away to Stoke last game of the season, Caldwell scored the winner at Anfield the same season when Wigan won there for the first time in their history... easy to call these players crap but who was he meant to attract to Wigan?

no offense mate but I hate this "who was he meant to attract to wigan" they are a small club and aint the richest fair enough, but they weren't in a worse position than we were when Moyes came tbf and he shown what a few decent signings (cahill, arteta) etc. can do to a team.

But like I said I love RM and think he has done a brilliant job this season but he still is an unknown in the transfer department so people have every right to be anxious over who we will sign. Personally I don't think we will go for this lad but Im just not sure on him from first impressions.

why because im sceptical of signing a near 28 year old who has only just come up from the Spanish version of the championship?
like I said David Nugent is around that age and is playing the same level this guy was playing until this season would you be happy with him? people have a right to question signings just because everyone isn't nodding heads and wanking each other off doesn't mean we arnt backing the manager/new signings.

Better technical players though mate in that league which would suit our play.
believe it or not people watch la liga and liga adelante.

To be fair to Riera, scoring 7 goals for that Osasuna side with those players behind him is pretty remarkable. Someone mentioned he scored twice at Real Madrid, I'd like to add that he also scored away to Atletico, who for me have the best defence in Europe.

To those mentioning his goal record, Alan Shearer had scored 23 goals in 118 games for Southampton before he joined Blackburn. The rest is history. Thierry Henry had scored 23 goals in 121 games for Monaco and Juventus before he joined Arsenal. The rest is history. I'm not saying he would join the likes of those in terms of goal scoring if he joins, I'm just highlighting that goal records at previous clubs does not always tell the full story on a player. If he has been scouted, he would of been watched through an Everton perspective and whether or not he would fit into our style of play.

To those mentioning his age, he's younger than Barry who currently has an active thread lauding his performance v Norwich. He is younger than Distin and Jagielka who have been at the heart of a defence that has kept 9 clean sheets in a fact paced league. As fans of this football club we're really not in the position to be ageist...

But he has signed players for Everton? Even if they are on loan he has still signed them?

Spain and France are FULL of players who, in the right situation, could do very well here. The fact that the average prem fan hasn't heard of them means nothing.

Yeah nothing wrong with that. He's started well with his signings but we'll be better placed to judge him in about two years.

but the fact is we could never afford a lukaku or del boy mate, Alladyce could sign Costa and Reus on loan and rip the league up but it doesn't enhance his credentials as he could never afford to sign those players permanently. Everyone knew Lukaku was a beast, everyone knows Barry is a quality player who played many games in a title winning side and being Spanish he knew of the potential of Del, but the acid test is bringing in your Mirallas's, Baines's jags, colemans, lescotts for £5-6 mil as that's what he's gonna have to do over the next 10 years to keep us where we are unless kenwright does one and we get an owner willing to back the manager.

Don't worry lad.

Spanish players will take the piss out of teams in this league at possession footy

Maybe DAVIDMOYES just works direct for the club and is off to warmer weather for the week, which makes it a good week for HIM to be an Evertonian?

I kinda got the feeling when he came out with that Baines news that he was just letting us know he can be fully trusted, and then he'd come out with the big stuff.

No mistake, I'm building this up in my own head big time.

RM was able to attract boss players to us. He will continue to do so.

Moyes had to find gems and he did so, very well in fact, but we have the foundations of a very strong spine of young players thanks to Moyes and now RM is actually allowing them to develop and grow into our team.

It's true, Martinez couldn't attract the players he really wanted at Wigan because of funds and realistically he had to find his own 'gems', who proved their worth at Wigan - he won a cup ffs, and they won it well. The problem was that over the course of a season his team let him down and were simply not consistent or strong enough.

I have been proven wrong, as have others, by almost all of Martinez signings so far, it's only Kone we haven't been able to see properly yet and that's down to an injury - not RM's fault.

Have faith lads.
