Silly Season January 2014

I know we don't know much about DAVIDMOYES personality wise, I just hope his idea of a good week isnt two average signings in McGeady and that Riera lad we apparently after. Of course two signings is good but would be a bit of a let down IMO!

Funnily enought I saw that oriol play the other day and you know what I laughted my ass of at how crap he was and thanked god we don't have someone that bad in our team. But fair nuff it was against Real Madrid away in he cup and the team was set up to just be out and out defence so he was isolated up top but even so he was crap, soooo it's a big no from me.

Here's a thought tho, bobby said we needed a replacement for kone right but we've just got rid of nikki so dose that mean where getting 2 strikers in this month?

If this has been mentioned already in this thread, sorry I can't be bothered checking its late at night here in Alaska!

Silly season is not the word for this. Did you see the BBC Sport gossip page yet lads? Money Bags Man City may offer 30million for Luke Shaw. Jesus wept. If he is worth that, by my reckoning both our full backs are worth 2-3 times more than him. Sell them both now and we could by a new stadium with the combined transfer fees.

Holy cow. 30 million for Luke Shaw. Ive seen it all now.

No just the one according to Greg O Keefe. Martinez still has things to prove in the transfer market for me particularly on the striker front.

This chap we're being linked with doesn't sound particularly good. He's also signed Kone for 6 million, Boselli for a club record 6 million at Wigan, and Di Santo, both of whom were woeful.

He got lucky with a Lukaku loan, as we were told it was actually Demba Ba he went after before being offered Lukaku instead, apparently because of annoying Mourinho by missing a penalty!

I agree, it makes a lot more sense to judge him on he was rumoured to be after, rather than who he signed!!

Well said lid!

being completely honest loanee's aside, Martinez scares me with his supposed targets, mcgready and this lad im not too sure on

Until a point at which his signings, loans or otherwise,he's ok by me. I wont judge a manager on the basis of his supposed transfer targets.

Why dont some of the younger folk on here go and look him (Riera) up on Champ Manager and FIFA then critique him from that well known benchmark for performance !!

Steward yesterday said a Spanish striker from Swansea....clearly wouldn't be Michu, but they have a fringe player , Vasquez, who may be Spanish....came on for the last 10 when we beat them just before Xmas.

I'm one of the most optimistic Blues here but, considering this quote from Bob, I worry that maybe the 'good week' meant that we got McGeady now, rather than the end of the season.

“We agreed the move for Jelavic last night. McGeady would’ve been a free transfer in the Summer but bringing him in means we don’t have pressure to bring in a number nine straight away.”

It could of course mean the club has triggered Batshuayi's £7M release clause, are negotiating terms and it's looking good.

Why are we starting to doubt on here?

Best football that most going the match will have ever seen.

Young, vibrant manager.

Good young basis of squad.

1 x transfer window completed so far with decent yield?

Some people are never happy, eh?

no offense mate but I hate this "who was he meant to attract to wigan" they are a small club and aint the richest fair enough, but they weren't in a worse position than we were when Moyes came tbf and he shown what a few decent signings (cahill, arteta) etc. can do to a team.

But like I said I love RM and think he has done a brilliant job this season but he still is an unknown in the transfer department so people have every right to be anxious over who we will sign. Personally I don't think we will go for this lad but Im just not sure on him from first impressions.

That's a defunct comparison imo. The level of players a 2002 era Everton could attract and afford were always a cut above what Wigan could get. Wage issue alone puts Wigan a tier below in that regard.
