This. However, Baines was phenomenal yesterday, it must be said, and you cannot put a price on having such a professional, home-grown lid in the side who absolutely loves the team and still has a good two/three years left in him at this level.

I just look at the alternatives... Baines goes, Lukaku stays what happens... we put Oviedo in and we become slightly worse as an XI than we are now. We lose the free kicks but still have Mirallas and Barkley who are no set piece slouches.

Baines stays but Lukaku goes back what happens... we keep the local lid but revert to the absolute waster Kone up front and are significantly weakened.

If only we have some money(!) to not constantly have to sell our best players.

I respect a lot of your posts but Baines was a very long way off being phenomenal yesterday. I appreciate everyone has his opinions but that one great run to create the Mirallas free kick apart, I thought Baines was pretty average to tell the truth.

As for Kone - surely you agree he's had next to no game time yet for us? So to judge his so harshly is a bit mad in my book. I'll be honest and say I'm not especially excited by him as a prospect but his record is okay and if Roberto was willing to make him a big initial purchase then I respect that.

Also, if we don't keep Lukaku then I think it fair to assume we'll get in another decent striker to fill the void - so it won't be just Kone no matter what...

Thank you mate. I just noticed a few times when he took the bull by the horns, so to speak, and charged with the ball, one of which led to that free kick. He also put in several quality crosses and looked up for it. I think recently, or even from now on, he may not stick out as much in the team as we've got Coleman increasingly receiving the ball, but he was good imo yesterday, if not phenomenal as I originally said.

I agree Kone hasn't had the time, but he has been terribly ineffective in the (few) minutes he's had on the pitch. The chances he missed have been unforgivable and, although it's not his fault, by the time he's bedded into the team he'll nearly be 31.

Regarding Lukaku going... unless we sell somebody for a lot of money there will, I think, not be a bigger name than Kone joining us. Which is sad and upsetting.

Who's having a go? Who's taking it out on the OP?

I only said the thread will be a bit disappointing if all it refers to is current players signing contract extensions. I've acknowledged his ITK'ness by way of referencing his 6/6 success rate (when he was being specific).

Unless you saw someone actually having a go at DAVIDMOYES?

Quoteth...

The most recent one is for no reason other than your own possible disappointment, you've said that unless either Lukaku or Deulofeu signs permanently (both highly unrealistic) then his OP is "a big girl's blouse" or whatever it was you said and whatever it meant (I'm not going through the thread to quote you). You've posted a few times throughout the thread in a similar way, making a point of how disappointing the thread will be if reality doesn't match your expectations.

As we've established, anyone getting themselves over-excited is themselves responsible, so it really doesn't need posting in the thread as it just comes across as having a go at DM for letting us know good news was coming, which is of course how it was intended as it's pretty much the textbook behaviour which stops ITK wanting to share. There's no need for it.

I now sound like I'm his Dad, so that'll be all from me.

Again i agree that goals win games, but sometimes spending £20+ on a striker doesnt work out - look at Soldado.

I agree but my comments were that the striker is the most important position in the team and that Martinez has to get it right. I still stand by that and i didnt even mention money

This is DAVIDMOYES, not Carlos. So when he says that this "Will be a good week to be an evertonian" he isn't referring to how decent his breakfast was or the weather. More than understandable as to why people are letting their imagination run wild really isn't it?

fair enough, lad...i was only stimulating debate, like.

Can't believe some posters on this forum, when Martinez was appointed the scare mongering about the defence aspect of his teams was unreal. Having silenced those critics with one of the best defensive records in the prem, the emphasis has now switched to questioning his ability to provide an effective attack.
FFS some people !
