Just asking opinion on this one

With Jellyfish away to Hull and Lukaku probably going back to Chelsea at the end of the season I feel we are going to be very light up front.

Do you think we will be alright? Should we try and get a striker in during this window?

I am feeling a wee bit worried to be honest. Especially as I have no idea if we have anyone lined up. Bringing someone in during the summer may be too late with little time to bed in.

Well, yes. But we didn't. Even if we did, it would be a huge gamble. And you don't just need money. If we offer a player £150k, (which we couldn't anyway, but let's say we could) they won't necessarily choose us over a team offering £100k. If you go to City, rather than Everton, you have the opportunity to make bonuses for winning the title, games, scoring, the champions league. Your profile also gets raised MUCH higher so your sponsorship oppurtunities rise - you get more money and this is, hopefully for the player, over the long term. Also, if you don't quite make it and get moved on your stock will be higher being at City than it will at Everton so your next move will be more lucrative and to a bigger club.
This is presuming all a player is thinking about is money.

There are more factors when buying a £20million player than just, well we can afford him so they'll come. They are not cars.

Citeh weren't after negredo last January so that point is mute mate, you could argue that for any situation that way suarez, giroud, RVP, etc. wouldn't have gone to Utd, RS, arse as Real Madrid might have come in and offered 50k less but you get more.

If a player comes available and you have the money and other clubs don't need that player you have a good chance of bringing them in if your in the sort of league position/potential we are.

again just look at suarez to see what a top class striker can do to a side.

On the flip side, why not come on and tell the posters something, rather than cryptic message of what may be to come?

Could it not wait if someone can't be said. Or could have an actual name been given that were in the process of signing?

There's a couple of excellent informed lids on here but usually when they can't say something then generally won't rather than throwing a bone and sparking over 500 posts of speculation. 500 posts which should really be in the Transfer thread which is used to stop idle threads like this.

I appreciate DAVID MOYES but this is spot on. When he used to just come on with one line of something definite happening, that was him at his best.

Ok fair enough. Agree to disagree time. A point on baines, as one of a dying breed, a local lad playin world class football for his local team I truly believe that he's worth more to everton than his monetary value. For me he's the player that represents us the fans best and to sell the likes of him is degrading to our identity as a great football club.

I love Baines mate and him being a local lad who has his head screwed on is why I think RM will do everything to keep him as he's a quality lad, but sadly under Kenwright can we afford to put loyalty ahead of business? its a situation a club of our stature should never have to be in but somehow Kenwright has been able to maintain position at the club.

To be fair to Riera, scoring 7 goals for that Osasuna side with those players behind him is pretty remarkable. Someone mentioned he scored twice at Real Madrid, I'd like to add that he also scored away to Atletico, who for me have the best defence in Europe.

To those mentioning his goal record, Alan Shearer had scored 23 goals in 118 games for Southampton before he joined Blackburn. The rest is history. Thierry Henry had scored 23 goals in 121 games for Monaco and Juventus before he joined Arsenal. The rest is history. I'm not saying he would join the likes of those in terms of goal scoring if he joins, I'm just highlighting that goal records at previous clubs does not always tell the full story on a player. If he has been scouted, he would of been watched through an Everton perspective and whether or not he would fit into our style of play.

To those mentioning his age, he's younger than Barry who currently has an active thread lauding his performance v Norwich. He is younger than Distin and Jagielka who have been at the heart of a defence that has kept 9 clean sheets in a fact paced league. As fans of this football club we're really not in the position to be ageist...

I think part of the concern, if our interest in him is genuine, is that he has no international recognition at any level and he's at a comparatively late age to be making his breakthrough into the top flight. At 27 we wouldn't be able to spend time developing him, so he would need to be first-team ready. Maybe Roberto sees him as someone who could turn out to be a bargain?

I suppose we won't know what we need until Lukaku's future is decided in the summer but we do need to find him an understudy in the meantime. Usually there isn't a lot of value to be had in January and whoever we bring in is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench, so it probably makes sense not to spend too much at the moment.

I suspect Roberto's comment about not being desperate to sign a number 9 type now we have McGeady hints at the prospect of Mirallas being used up top more.

Can't believe people on here are criticising the OP. The info he has given before has been spot on. Ok so he has been a little more vague this time, but we don't know what is going on in the background i.e finishing touches being put to a contract or add ons to a transfer being finalised. One thing I hope is that David Moyes continues to post on here. My heart nearly missed a beat thinking Alan Stubbs was getting the managers job, until the OP dismissed it. Everyone chill and just be patient.
