Silly Season January 2014

Martinez has said he will only buy someone who fits in with his ethos, if no one is available he doesn't buy. Has not once mentioned lack of funding.
To be fair you wouldn't expect him too. There maybe money, there maybe not. None of us really know but most will have our suspicions.

Hi mate,

having two threads discussing the same thing is normally merged into one so it can be monitored better.

In this particular case, the OP only posted twice in the thread offering minimal information, which did not justify it's own thread.

Sorry pal. joint admin decision.

Not meaning to be a tool like, and it's a fair enough decision, but i think he only ever posted two or 3 times in his Mirallas thread, which ended up with like 200 pages. But then again the other thread was pretty vague. But it's a forum, is it not?

Anyway back on topic, can't actually see many new faces coming in over the next few days. Depending on when (if) Jella leaves then we might make a move for a striker towards the weekend, with a view to having the deal tied up by Monday nights game.

Batshuayi would be class, but if we get him this window i'd be surprised
Lacazette in the same boat. Lyon and Agent both say he's not leaving now but obviously a sizeable bid would change that.
While i'd still love us to make a move for Ramos from Hertha

He has to say that though, otherwise it weakens any negotiation he has with other clubs.

He'll privately be desperate to strengthen just as much as we are especially given what's up for grabs. He's still relatively new in the job and wants to continue to implement a change in the way we play. His livelihood and reputation depends on it. Of course deals fall through etc. But we should have strong indications based on actual acknowledged bids made by the end of the month.

By and large its a forum mate and well most of the forum posters who have expressed an opinion have disagreed with merging, only one seemed to semi support it like, as a few have said, just seems pretty arbitrary and a little petty/pointless tbh

This is true, but to be fair you can't blame people from fearing the worst as we've seen it all before.

The report that things "changed" regarding McGeady's "summer" move on Thursday night, when a deal was done for Jelavic which enabled McGeady's move to be brought forward, Martinez' words.

Now they could have been taken out of context and meant nothing, but considering the negative net spend In the summer and us being told funds are available, there is enough there to set alarm bells ringing.

Top post mate, and sums up why people are getting suspicious, yet again we are only a couple of decent signings from pushing into the top 4. IF a big IF we have some money to spend we must gamble now for that CL spot, if we finish 6/7th again the quality of players we will attract won`t be the same.
I`m no Kenwright fan, so will wait until FEB 1st to really kick off, but Davek is right to be concerned, as we all are,it happens all to frequently for my liking.

You are telling me what I mean when I write - even after getting a clarification to the contrary. How is that 'fact'? It's not. It's a defamation of my character.

I wasn't telling you anything of the sort, your posts spoke for themselves, all I did was state fact. You did intimate wrong doing here:

Another transfer window generating a surplus for Bill and his creative accounting team

You then said where you thought it was going;

You cant be seriously questioning the reality of the Other Operating Costs column in club accounts?

You're clearly saying there that the 'other costs' column (in the audited accounts) doesn't reflect reality.

When challenged you then attempted to back peddle by mentioning the paying down of debt, but the debt level & amounts due within 1 to 5 years is clearly shown in the accounts. So no luck there........

Now you're simply trying to deflect with nonsense. I stand by exactly what I said, shame you haven't got the nads to do the same.....

There is. But this is particularly about this transfer window and the obvious lack of resources preventing a simple 7M deal going through for a striker who is earmarked to take the place of an outgoing one and one injured for the rest of the season.

It's a legitimate concern and one that belongs in a strand discussing the window itself.

I think the money is there to get that lad for 7m but I reckon as before the club are trying to bring in 2 or 3 on installments.

It’s still amounts to the same thing when it comes down to it we hustle like amateurs and then we will give in and pay the money.

No fan of the current board, but you do know that the vast majority of transfers these days are done with payments made in instalments, right?

We won,t be getting this new striker unless we pay in full so installments are a non starter.

Kone was the same, we tried it on and we ended up having to stump up the dough in the end.

We have been here before.

This reminds me very much of Daves tirade last summer against the board after David Moyes had left and the process to appoint a new manager was in progress.

He was adamant there would be an internal appointment, that no money would be spent and the club would go into a downward spiral.....he was wrong on all counts.

He is again stirring the pot in this window, based on nothing but his own dislike of Bill Kenwright. We already have signed one player and I would bet that even RM couldn't be certain if he can sign players this month given the difficulty of operating in the transfer market, but it does seem as if we know at least two players he would like to sign if possible.

I am not an advocate for Bill Kenwright, but in the absence of a billionaire owner I am happy with how the club is being run.
I am happy with the two managers appointed by Bill Kenwright and I was very happy with the last transfer window and I trust RM when he said we would finis this window stronger.

Debate is one thing, constant negativity is another. Let's wait until February 1st before we praise or condemn the club.

Errm, negative net spend of like 13-15m says differently mate
