Silly Season January 2014

God help me, but i still want a last minute bid for De Bruyne or Defour... desperately need a creative type in that midfield like

We definitely do. You can see how everyone panicked when Barkley's injury was announced. We have no obvious stand in for him...not that he's easy to replace, but we need an upgrade on Osman, for sure. Diego is going to be ousted by De Bruyne at Wolfsburg and that lad would be a wonderful addition to this team.

Theirs been a few names bandied about in here mate that would be ideal, thing is we know pretty much that we cant bring someone in who will give us what Barkley does, instead we should bring in someone who gives us either a different option should he not be working or god forbid be injured, or gives us someone who can unlock a defense thus complimenting barkley and ultimately will make him way more dangerous than he is now, atm we have nothing really, plus it kinda limits us tactically if plan A isn't wortking we dont really have a second option besides throwing on pace

I like Martinez and this season has been great. But he's a salesman. He puts a positive spin on everything and says what the people he's speaking to want to hear.

Everyone's loving it now but if he's with us long enough it'll wear thin. The same way Moyes' pragmatism wore thin in the last couple of years.

VAULT ME IN EIGHTEEN MONTHS WHEN EVERYONE'S FUMING ABOUT MARTINEZ SAYING WE PLAYED GREAT IN A 3-0 DERBY DEFEAT.

As much as people want to make excuses for him Martinez did sign quite a few poor players for Wigan and Kone was a nightmare signing for us (though all of his other signings have paid off so far). I won't be shocked if he does drop another bollock with the next striker he signs, he has previous for it.

Please tell me about all those poor players he signed for Wigan? If he signed them for us they woud be poor but they wearn't for Wigan at the time.

How do you know kone was a nightmare signing, he's injured, and when he has played his 5 sub apperances he's been unlucky not to score. You're being unnecessarily negative with absolutly no facts, just judging RM from a previous negative manager.

Fair comment. I do worry (although I think they are a great mf partnership) that Barry/McCarthy dont give us that bit of extra attacking push behind Ross that can turn the screw even more on opponents. If we had the option to start on occasion (or change in game) to Ross dropping back and partnering one of those two with some more obvious play maker like a Diego type slotting into his role we would be a very formidable force in this league.

On the "Everton Forum " Sheedy has said that he has been told the Kenwynne Jones stories are more about the agent trying to create interest in his client rather than genuine Everton interest.

I should add that I have followed "Sheedys" information from when he posted on Bluekipper and have found him to be the most reliable itk around.
There are plenty of things happening that he will admit he knows nothing aboutbut when he does have information it is nearly always reliable.

Just as a list of players around we could go for - given we actually have at least the money from Jela and chebes going left - bot counting the rest as its dissapeared no doubt

Nahtko, diego, defour, de bruyne, Natic, Honda (already moved), Ince (gives us options but not the most creative), Sigurdson, Holtby.

All would provide a much better option than we currently have

There is an unlikely scenario

Remember when Martinez said he sees this window as a short term fix opportunity?

We do have money from the summer and now from Jellavic's sale, yet he is not spending anything, it the Jones story is true, it means he is looking for a cheap backup, not a long term 1st choice striker

That takes us to Lukaku, regardless of what Martines is saying, he will LOVE to sign him permanently, and regardless of what both Lukaku and Mourinho say, the relationship between the both is damaged and knowing Mourinho who deosn't tolerate criticism from a 30+ years old club legend let alone a 20 years old kid, i can't see Lukaku going back to Chelsea under Mourinho and becoming regular and i doubt Mourinho will leave Chelsea anytime soon.

Lukaku is obviously enjoying his time here (check this out https://twitter.com/RomeluLukaku9/status/419591854469156864 ) he is still 20 and a smart boy, he knows very well that being a regular for Everton is better than a backup for Chelsea or Barcelona or Madrid (at this stage of his career) so if he has no future at Chelsea under Mourinho he will gladly move here permanently

As we are seeing with De Bruyne, Mourinho has no problem in selling one of the youngsters that was brought to the club by someone else, De Bruyne like Lukaku is highly rated but is being sold, Lukaku and De Bruyne are Belgians and same age so i think if they are not closed friends at least they speak with each others, De Bruyne was somehow forced out of the club by Mourinho.

So that leaves us with one small problem, around 15-20M of real money, is Martines saving all the money to spend it on Lukaku in the summer? Or if Lukaku goes back to Chelsea on another 15-20M striker?

15 championship goals, only 21, would be a bit of a gamble but could be hugely worth it in the long run

Good shout this.

Also, absolutely loved reading the last 30 odd pages this morning after I hadn't logged in since 1800 yesterday. So much fume over nothing. You know what's happened since 1800 yesterday guys? Nothing.

Think like me you see Barkley eventually in a central role anyways mate in a year or two don't ya? but just having the players to be able to swap Barkley into mid alongside either barry or mccarthy with another quality player in the cam role would help break down some teams a lot i feel, think its the difference if you like between arsenal, chelsea, even the rs and us. utd and spurs, 3 have that type of player the other 3 dont - god knows how with spurs though with the mid they signed

I suppose if you are that type of quality player though you'd be asking yourself what sort of game time you'd be likely to get given Ross' dominance (and most will be looking to play pre-wc a lot of matches). For example (and using the Diego scenario again) he had his nose put out of joint this season when the younger Maximilian Arnold came in and took his place for a few games. Finding cash and soothing those egos are the issues I suppose.

Sheeds is mates a with an agent who represents some stoke players
If shreeds says stuff about a stoke player (jones) its likely to be correct
