Diego is a shout.
6 months left on his deal, Wolfsburg have spent big money on De Bruyne, doesnt want to stay in Germany and doesnt want a return to Spain. G'wed Roberto.

Think like me you see Barkley eventually in a central role anyways mate in a year or two don't ya? but just having the players to be able to swap Barkley into mid alongside either barry or mccarthy with another quality player in the cam role would help break down some teams a lot i feel, think its the difference if you like between arsenal, chelsea, even the rs and us. utd and spurs, 3 have that type of player the other 3 dont - god knows how with spurs though with the mid they signed

Yep. He's not a lock picking playmaker, for me. He's a box-to-box cm.

I suppose if you are that type of quality player though you'd be asking yourself what sort of game time you'd be likely to get given Ross' dominance (and most will be looking to play pre-wc a lot of matches). For example (and using the Diego scenario again) he had his nose put out of joint this season when the younger Maximilian Arnold came in and took his place for a few games. Finding cash and soothing those egos are the issues I suppose.

Add together Leon Osman and Naismiths play time in the league this year mate and you have a inkling of what type of time you could offer someone without displacing a regular first teamer

Osman 21 games played a part in, 15 as a starter 1,173 minutes played int he league
Naismith 14 games played a part in 4 as a starter 422 minutes played in the league

total of like 19 starts and 1595 minutes played

Out of a potential 22 games and like 1,830 minutes games/time played this year

compared to barkleys 19 games played 16 as a starter and 1479 minutes played

think being first choice backup for us means you get a lot of minutes over the course of the season enough to satisfy most like

Please tell me about all those poor players he signed for Wigan? If he signed them for us they woud be poor but they wearn't for Wigan at the time.
They went down last year mate.

Obviously this list comes with the caveat that Wigan are a little known club with few financial resources, but you asked for names of poor players signed by Martinez so: Roger Espinoza, Ivan Ramis, Albert Crusat, David Jones, Nouha Dicko, Mauro Boselli (for £6.5m), Connor Sammon, Steven Caldwell, Franco Di Santo, Adrian Lopez, Jason Scotland, Hendry Thomas, Antonio Amaya, Steven Gohouri. A worrying proportion of them are strikers.

How do you know kone was a nightmare signing, he's injured, and when he has played his 5 sub apperances he's been unlucky not to score. You're being unnecessarily negative with absolutly no facts, just judging RM from a previous negative manager.
£6m for 29 year old is a big risk for us. He looked poor enough in his first few appearances that Martinez went back into the market for another striker on deadline day. He hit the post once, aside from that he never looked like scoring. He might come good, but so far it's been a complete waste of resources.

I think Martinez is a little wizard of a tactician but I'm not convinced by his eye for a player, yet.

There is an unlikely scenario

Remember when Martinez said he sees this window as a short term fix opportunity?

We do have money from the summer and now from Jellavic's sale, yet he is not spending anything, it the Jones story is true, it means he is looking for a cheap backup, not a long term 1st choice striker

That takes us to Lukaku, regardless of what Martines is saying, he will LOVE to sign him permanently, and regardless of what both Lukaku and Mourinho say, the relationship between the both is damaged and knowing Mourinho who deosn't tolerate criticism from a 30+ years old club legend let alone a 20 years old kid, i can't see Lukaku going back to Chelsea under Mourinho and becoming regular and i doubt Mourinho will leave Chelsea anytime soon.

Lukaku is obviously enjoying his time here (check this out https://twitter.com/RomeluLukaku9/status/419591854469156864 ) he is still 20 and a smart boy, he knows very well that being a regular for Everton is better than a backup for Chelsea or Barcelona or Madrid (at this stage of his career) so if he has no future at Chelsea under Mourinho he will gladly move here permanently

As we are seeing with De Bruyne, Mourinho has no problem in selling one of the youngsters that was brought to the club by someone else, De Bruyne like Lukaku is highly rated but is being sold, Lukaku and De Bruyne are Belgians and same age so i think if they are not closed friends at least they speak with each others, De Bruyne was somehow forced out of the club by Mourinho.

So that leaves us with one small problem, around 15-20M of real money, is Martines saving all the money to spend it on Lukaku in the summer? Or if Lukaku goes back to Chelsea on another 15-20M striker?

I hope your right mate, but with this boards past history, the money will disappear?

My thought exactly tbh, much as i hate using the turds name, he has shades of gerrard mid 20's about him sometimes, only better by far technically on the ball

He's the closest thing to Gerrard since, well.....Gerrard.

His strength is beating a man in the centre of the park, it's a rare attribute these days, he's got the power, pace & technical ability to get the ball in a central position & just drive forwards, but like both you & Dave say, he's not really a creative No. 10 - yet.

He reminds me more of Gazza or even Yaya Toure than Gerrard to be honest. Don't remember Gerrard receiving the ball on the half turn and taking players on the way that Ross does.

Gibson will be back from injury by next August and he will be competing with both Barry and McCarthy for the midfield role.
Regarding Barkley,it isn't fully clear what RM sees as his long term role in midfield.
I think we may see Barkley drop deeper into midfield as he builds up experience with Mirallas and/or Pienaar playing more central roles. This would create vacancies out wide for McGeady and maybe even Ince,if we were to sign him.

I am not sure that RM is going to spend his money on a central midfield.

Just seen on Sky Barkley has a confirmed broken toe

I was told last night the injury was nothing serious and he'll be back for the derby. I presumed the toe wasnt broken, but if it as appears is broken it must only be very slight

Still certain he'll be fit for the ****e

Yeah, point taken. I'd expect Martinez to bring the right 'sort' in too...good attitude etc.

It comes down to finances first and foremost. Where's the ambition here to make a fist of this CL spot challenge? We'll get the answer to that question in the next two weeks, I suppose.

If he does see him that way mate as a long term centre mid alongside Mccarthy then it makes a playmaker type the moist obvious area of weakness for us, moreso than even now
