Fernando and Lucho Gonzales the former argie international mate are the starters, they also have Carlos Eduardo and Héctor Herrera who are all competing with defour for time plus they have just had some young lad breaking through too Juan Quintero whose making a big impact apparently as a cam

Ah, Lucho... what could've been...

If that's the case I reckon Defour would jump at the chance to come here, especially over atleastwe'renotvilla. I've seen play both deep and further forward, and he's looked very comfortable either way. But if Martinez likes Fernando it might mean he's looking for a bigger, more imposing DM.

Aye mate i agree, and Lucho is still quality at 32, and well we all know fernando is a bit of a beast like, i think the days of having that big imposing centre mid are gone by the wayside tbh, rather have a mccarthy type in their with a creative type myself

Interesting that Chelsea are about to spend £20 million on a striker? The Lukaku to Everton permanently scenario, which was 'no chance in hell' has now become 'a slight chance at least'? For the summer, possibly?

They went down last year mate.

Obviously this list comes with the caveat that Wigan are a little known club with few financial resources, but you asked for names of poor players signed by Martinez so: Roger Espinoza, Ivan Ramis, Albert Crusat, David Jones, Nouha Dicko, Mauro Boselli (for £6.5m), Connor Sammon, Steven Caldwell, Franco Di Santo, Adrian Lopez, Jason Scotland, Hendry Thomas, Antonio Amaya, Steven Gohouri. A worrying proportion of them are strikers.

£6m for 29 year old is a big risk for us. He looked poor enough in his first few appearances that Martinez went back into the market for another striker on deadline day. He hit the post once, aside from that he never looked like scoring. He might come good, but so far it's been a complete waste of resources.

I think Martinez is a little wizard of a tactician but I'm not convinced by his eye for a player, yet.

All of these player were good players for Wigan, at the time, there is a reason they stayed up for 8 years, obviously compared to us they are bad players, but you need to look at it from Wigans point of view at the time.
