Connor (Sammon?), you're goofed up on Martinez balls and that's boss. But looked at objectively Martinez has made some bad buys in the past. You keep saying it's only one or two bad buys, but I listed 14 in my post (over 3 years; nearly 5 bad buys per season) and your only defence is that they kept Wigan up for 8 years. Which they didn't.

If we shouldn't judge a manager's ability in the transfer market on his past transfer record, what should we judge them on? Whether or not they manage Everton?

What are bad buys to you?! The 5 minutes each week you saw on match of the day that didn't live up to their price tags of £0? Out of the 14 of those signings, 4 had transfer fees, which are all minimal. If Martinez made 14 bad signings in 3 years how the hell did they stay up!?!

Some of those players didn't even get 5 minutes on MOTD mate, as they couldn't oust Hugo Rodallega and Gary Caldwell from the first eleven.

They stayed up because Martinez inherited a side that had been in the Premiership for 5 years and added some quality to it. I never said he made exclusively bad buys, just that he'd made enough to warrant some skepticism (especially up front).

Do you think Dalglish did well in the transfer market in his second spell at Liverpool? If you think Adam, Carroll, and Downing were bad buys I'll remind you that they kept Liverpool up for a year and a half.

You last paragraph has summed up my point, some transfers are better for some teams, Connor Sammon would be bad for us, but great for Wigan. Andy Carroll is a great signing for West Ham, but poor for Liverpool. Martinez did as well as is possible with the money (or lack of) and allure the Wigan attracts. You may not get this, but Rodallega was a GREAT buy for Wigan.

Connor Sammon scored once in 32 league games for Wigan before being sold to Derby. Find one Wigan fan who thought Sammon was great for them and get him to post in here.

Ah come on mate. He relegated a side in three years that Paul Jewell and Steve Bruce had kept up for five between them. It's great that he won them a cup but he didn't do 'as well as is possible'.

Rodallega did well there and that's why I didn't include him in my Martinez list of shame. That doesn't mean some of his other buys weren't suspect, even for a team of Wigan's stature.

You're an Everton fan and you want to stick up for Everton's manager. Sound. It doesn't change that Martinez has dropped some bollocks in the transfer market and 'IT WAS ONLY WIGAN' doesn't excuse them all.
