Silly Season January 2014

Dave, really what do you expect?

I'm not Board bashing, but with an operating loss and a negative value balance sheet what can they do?

They're not going to invest/can't invest, and even with greater TV revenues in the future can't secure greater borrowings.

Hands are tied (yes, we can argue who is to blame) but this window is a good as we can realistically expect. We can fantasize about more, but that's what it is,....... a fantasy...

How on earth is this and the last window as good as it can get when they won't even allow the manager to spend what comes in...when that (plus 'a few bob' in the words of Billy Liar) was PROMISED to him last summer? As for the tv windfall: go back and read Elstone's latest word on that. He's saying it's there to do what they like with...team building or infrastructure or paying down debt (presumably to allow greater borrowing possibilities to spend on the team).

It really won't do to help them wash their hands of this car crash. It isn't really the fait accompli you present it as, is it?

The Good Child syndrome is everywhere.

I think you've answered your own question re Elstone's quote - pay down debt.

They can say what they want, present or spin as positively as possible but in this climate the bank (Barclays in this case) will want debt reduced - turn the balance sheet positive.

Forget investing in the team, until we show an operating profit, debt repayment is the name of the game.

I think most fans might be more forgiving if the board were a bit more honest about the whole thing
