Stop trying to make football be rugby

The officiating in rugby is about as good as it gets.

Mic up refs. Play their conversations to the stadium. Put VAR live on the big screen. Make them have conversations with players and explain their decisions instead of pretending they are above everything.

Football gets refereeing deliberately wrong though in order to keep the big boys on top so any changes football makes are going to further that unfortunately.

I understand what you mean. But there is a crucial difference between how the systems are used. In by far the most times its used in rugby, the ref asks for it, usually confirmation of a try/foul play. It is rare that VAR interferes with the on field decision, unseen foul play aside.

These days, footie VAR re refs the game.

The fans should hear the discussion over the mike commentary - imagine we have never seen anything really as we were watch the golf on another Sky channel -

Joking apart, the players then can be told why they came about the decision etc etc .....

Just start sending off players who confront the ref. It'll stop within a week. Captains only speaking to the ref I'm in full agreement with. This is bigger than at professional level, how they act is replicated towards blokes volunteering their time to ref on the weekend.

It was quite noticeable that Tarks pushed some of our players away when he was speaking to the ref.

It’s also much more difficult in rugby union to plug the hole created by the loss of a player for 10 mins, as each player has a unique and individual position / role within the team.

Unless it was the goalie, all you’d have to do in footy is put ten men behind the ball for 10 mins.

Exactly. It would just lead to 10 minutes of boring safety ball.
