Was round a mate's house the other day and he got out a bottle of The Balvennie which I've never had before.

Best whisky I've ever had. But I gather that it's available in a number of ages - do any of the itk's on here recommend a particular age?

Tun 1401 batch 8 if you've got a few hundred quid spare lol

Bìg fan of the 12yo double wood, the port wood 21yo is great as well although rather pricy.

Not tried the 17yo doublewood or 14yo caribbean cask although been told they're both very nice. The 14yo Caribbean Cask is near the top of my "to try" list.

Finally opened my bottle of Bunnahabhainn (Islay distillery). Was mildly surprised as this distillery produces some strong peaty malts (Laphroaig) which I am not keen on. However, the Bunnahabhainn is an extremely smooth malt with a very pleasant after taste. I shall enjoy the rest of the bottle and will certainly add it to my list of 'must have's' in the future.

Came across this.

Gie me the real Glenlivet....the human mind never tires o' Glenlivet. If a body could just find oot the exac' proportion and quantity that ought to be drunk every day, and keep to that, I verily trow that he might leeve for ever, without dying at a', and that doctors and kirkyards would go oot o' fashion.

Jame Hogg, 1827.

Seems reasonable.

Off the back of your reviee and @Groucho recommendations I have just ordered myself a bottle. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Got a bottle of Balvenie 15 Year Old Single Barrel Sherry Cask for New Year from a client.

Really good. (if you like Sherry casked) but I believe that the quality varies depending on which Sherry Cask they use.

Will just have to find another bottle from a different Cask (they're numbered) to compare
