(Glenfiddich Solara 15) without being one that I immediately thought I'd need to buy more of, if that makes sense.
I tried it and you nailed it, I found it slightly underwhelming - in fact bland, boring and thus vastly over priced for what it is...or, in this case, isn't.

Edit; all subjective obvs, somebody else might like it and until you try it...

Hopefully you can still enjoy it though for what it is. I often find that after a few weeks of being open the whisky is substantially better so fingers crossed on that front. (Perhaps that's why I thought it tasted a lot better when I had it the other day compared to the first dram?)

As for the last sentence it is very much so, everyone is different. Like the chap that preferred the 15 over the 12 and 18. I would rank them 12, 18 then 15 but doesn't mean I'm right. It's just what my taste buds think.

I drinking it now and the 3rd glass tastes better than the 1st, but it is 1245am

I can't say that I've ever had a bottle last that long so can't add to this comment.

Just enjoying a glass of Ardberg at the moment whilst watching the cricket and eating Stilton and a lovely, strong cheddar.

I can see that might be difficult. I have quite a few different bottles open so I probably only have the same whisky a couple of times a week as I rotate. It also helps that usually I'm happy to only have a dram a night and rarely need/want a second.

Four new bottles for xmas, the family clearly doesn't care for my health. They must all be on board the "died doing what he loves" train...

First up, from Midleton's Skunkworks facility...sweet, full of flavour but dangerously close (in price) to their own Redbreast 12 Cask Strength.

Thinking back you may have a point.
I acquired a 2nd hand bottle of the basic Ardberg (which I'd never heard of back then) it had about 2inches left in it.
It was seriously smooth
10(?)years later I bought a bottle in the duty free and - even making allowances for whisky tinted hindsight glasses it seemed rough as guts
Anyway I've put the Solara in the cupboard and will revisit anon.

Yes indeed, I enjoyed it and of those 5 empties in the pic I’d place Glenfiddich IPA second behind Highland Park 18 . I’ve got a Glenfiddich 12 from my birthday , but must admit my favourite Glenfiddich is the 15 year old Solera Vat , great value if you can pick up at Tesco or somewhere . I’d definitely get another Glenfiddich IPA, everybody’s ‘s taste is different of course.
My daughter bought me the Glenfiddich IPA for Christmas. Tried it last night. It tasted quite sweet but that was after a few Ardbergs. Might have to try it by itself.

I received this, Smokehead Islay Malt for Christmas. I must first admit that over the years I’ve gone away from Islays, still got some Lagavulin but prefer Ardbeg if anything. So this was an intriguing one. It’s No Age Specified, NAS, and no distillery is mentioned. Reading all the blurb “assault on the tastes “ , intensely rich , heavy , earthy peat etc I was expecting it to be something that young people buy and drink based solely on the name . But it’s great! It’s closer to Ardbeg for me , but quite sweet . I’m going to enjoy this , not sure if my tastes have changed but very welcome!

The family all took the hint and I got 4 bottles of Ardbeg, 2 of them the marvellous Corryvreckan. That should keep me going for a while
