I've always wanted to like whiskey I just wouldn't know where to start.
I never was keen until I did a tasting evening at the Scottish Malt Whiskey Society.. Bottles under 25 quid tend to be pretty rubbish. Thats what basically did it for me! The difference in tastes and looks and pretty much everything is amazing once you start really trying different ones..

We tried several, some very dark and very smokey, to very light pale ones that almost tasted like they were fizzy!! I was converted!! :)

Think I'll keep an eye out for a tasting session in Liverpool then. Nice one.

If you ever go to Skye ......take a trip to the distillery at Talisker and do the tour.

Fabulous and you can taste the peat and sea in every drop.

For any of you starting out I go on http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/grocery-categories/Malt_Whisky_in_Tesco.html and switch between the various shops. At the moment I would say the following are good value and worth a put for under £30

Arberlour 10 yo £20 - a good tipple for someone starting out and not wanting to splosh the dosh - ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury
Glenlevit 12 yo £23 - Not that far behind the 15 yo, nice drink - Waitrose
Old Pulteney 12 yo £23.50 - I love this and have a bottle at the mo. - ASDA
Auchentoshan 10 yo £22 - Good for an introduction, quaffable - ASDA
Stathisla £25 - Not tried it myself but mentioned earlier - Sainsbury
Bunnahabhain 12 £27 - JUST BUY IT - Waitrose
Arberlour Double Cask 12 yo £28 - Not tried but might just go and get one, highly rated - Waitrose
Balvenie Double wood £29 - Beautiful but hang on in there I reckon you could get it a bit cheaper closer to xmas - Waitrose

Obviously there are others out there but they are my choices, I have left out the likes of Laphroaig as that is probably a bit much for a newby.

Only discovered whisky about 3 years ago after my old man passed away. He had a few bottles at home. Really grew into them and tried a good variety over the past few years. Atm I'm very much into Bowmore Islay Single Malt.
