Single malts

Notes from today;

Oban Little Bay; nose is very like sherry, dark and rich, the opposite of smooth - not what I was expecting and not like regular Oban at all, but very nice.

Glenfarclas 15 yo; nice, toffee flavours not unlike the 10 yo (and lesser spotted 12 yo that I had once), decent, exactly what you'd expect from a slightly more mature Glenfarclas.

Bunnahabhain Loch Fyne 14 yo bottling; mild aroma, with blue cheese flavour, beat when with added water - nothing like regular Bunnahabhain nor any other bottling of it, but very nice.

Bowmore Darkest; peaty but not as much as you'd think, sweet, dark and pleasant.

Well I've had a busy week of whisky. Went on my annual pilgrimage to Scotland. Went to the following distilleries:- Bruichladdich, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Cragganmore and Clynelish. Highlight of the trip was easily Bruichladdich, it's a brilliant distillery and it makes some wicked whisky which they will gladly let you taste on your £5 tour, they have a real peat monster called Octomore and it's pretty damn nice even though I'm not a peat head.
Cragganmore had a lovely 17 year old that you can only taste on the tour, it was fantastic, shame you can't buy it Clynelish is a top tipple as well. Came away with a bottle of Benrinnes 15, half bottle of Clynelish, Bruichladdich Classic, a minature of Glengoyne 18, Genengoyne 15 and a Springbank 15. God I love whisky.

Always wanted to try one of the Octomore expressions. Bruichladdich claim it as the most heavily peated whisky ever made.

jealous here.

I went to arkwrights a corner shop in Highworth, near me, for the first time today. They do whisky, I was told, as well as homebrew kit. Bejeezus I've never seen such a selection of whiskies! There were literally hundreds of malts all at very reasonable prices, and going up to hundreds of pounds.

While buying my wine making kit I engaged the very knowledgeable fella in conversation about isaly 's new distillery. Very quickly he offered me a free taking, which would have been very rude of me to turn down. It was a typical islay malt, very peaty and smokey, but pleasantly sweeter taste. Can't remember what it was called, but it began with a k.

They sell their stuff worldwide online too. :)
