Single malts

So here's a surprising one. Not a fan of JD, and tried a few of the premium range, Gentleman Jack etc but they've never done it for me. But I've got no US in so I mooch in the Asda for a bottle and see this:

This 150th anniversary edition is 3% over the regular and I dunno what else they've done with it but there's a bolder, slightly smokey spiciness to it and a bit of a burn rather than their usual over sweet flavour.

£15 a bottle. Well worth a punt.

Would love to do a distillery tour. One day hopefully.
I’ve got about 30 distilleries within travelling distance, the one I take visitors too is Glenfiddich and combine it with a visit to the Speyside Coperage, 5 miles from Dufftown where Glenfiddich is. But really just about every distillery open to the public makes a decent effort with Visitors Centres these days. Those with a malting floor on site add something different, but there aren’t many these days - Highland Park on Orkney is one but pretty remote for most people.

Can I visit you?

Don't Balvenie do their own malting?

They do, and are all very close to each other. I have a very nice weekend in the area every year that I remember almost nothing about.

Back in the day,1999 - 2000, the lad, acting on information received as they say, bid on a box of stuff at the auctions. Paid $25 for what turned out to be 12 bottles of used / half / quarter bottles of spirits.
Today he was cleaning out the garage to fit more crap in, he found a bottle of Lagavulin 16yo with an inch and a half still in it.
There you go, don't say I never give you anything, you have it, I'd only put coke in it...I blame his mother.
So that's 16 + 18 + however long it was on the bar before they went bust.
Just made two drinks out of it.
I can only say WOW.
Trouble is I have nothing to compare it to.
