Sir Landon Of Donovan

You said last 10 years mate, have you checked back at their other qualifying groups if that's your argument. Are you saying it's easy to qualify in europe??

Donovan has never played at a high level other than his 2 loan spells here, he bombed in Germany. Mirallas has at least played his football in europe albeit in Greece and France.

The players Belgium have are the current widely regarded best young stars in europe and they have a team full of them. They might not gel as a team but individually and the clubs they all play for tells you that the standard of player they have is very high.

Now tell me which clubs half the USA team play for and see if what you are saying is nonesense. As a team yes USA play better because they have a work ethic, you could argue Belgiums problem is the opposite they are all talented individuals but to say Mirallas doesn't even get into a very talented Belgium side is laughable.

I'm saying that there are a number of crap teams who qualify for the European Championships, and that Belgium weren't even good enough to qualify.

I'm not interested in vilifying Mirralas because I rate him as a player, I just don't think he is anywhere as near as good as Donovan on the right hand side. But it is true to say that he also bombed in the French league with Saint Etienne, and I don't know how accurate it is to pass off the Greek league as being vastly superior to what takes place in the USA.

The fact remains that Everton Football Club and the Premier League represent the biggest stage that either player has played in. Well, unless you count Donovan showcasing his talents at a number of different World Cup competitions.

He's played him at central mid a lot, too to be fair. Like pretty much every game before we sold Cahill. But yeah I think he's going to be playing mostly in his current position and I think it suits us to play him there so fair enough.

I think we're only going to be starting one other attacker if Fellaini, Pienaar and Jelavic are fit and that's at RM. We buy Donovan and one of him and Mirallas will be starting on the bench. Which is good if we can afford it, nice to have strong bench.

I meant he has had plenty of opportunity to play him at CM this season, and time after time he has chosen to keep him in the advanced position.

could you show me where I said that mate thanks, can't seem to find it.

But being 30+ isn't a benefit. Most footballers reach their peak in their mid 20s but regardless it was only last year that they finished behind TURKEY.

TURKEY FFS

I didn't say being 30+ was a benefit. I was trying to point that this batch of players from .be people are raving about were just over 21-23 when they were qualifying for Europe when they finished behind Turkey so not ready and gel'd up as a team as the 30 smth USMNTLOL is. And I'm pretty sure the states team will be the more organized and hard working side as that's what teams that are not blessed with talent do if they are to succeed and the players aknowledge that. If the Belgium sides gets that, then they'll be a top top side.

Pienaar, Drenthe, etc all have done as well as Donovan for us. And they are not world class.

That's all I'm saying. This is actually the kind of off-topicness I vilify Americans for.

With love,

Somuchbum x

Apart from against Leeds and west brom second half when he did play him at CM.

Yes, apart from those two horrible occasions he has consistently played him further forward.

Moyes has had plenty of opportunities to put him in CM but he hasn't done so. I'd have had Fellaini in CM for the derby to be honest but once again he was deployed further forward. I think he reverted to CM in a recent game as well (Wigan?) and he was alright there. But I honestly think Moyes prefers him in that advanced position, which everyone agrees he is quite good at.

I think that Moyes will continue with a CM of Osman and Neville whilst Gibson remains injured.

We bought a 30+ Pienaar for 4.5million just a few months ago, and nobody seemed to have a problem with it.

Distin was over 30 and cost about 5million as well.

All the more reason why we shouldn't overload with over 30s players with little or no sell on value. We have plenty now...Neville, Distin and Peinnar..Howard as well but keepers go on longer at the top level. Donovan would be useful back up, on a free with far from top wages, but I'd expect any money we can muster in January to be better spent on a ballwinner in midfield, in the mid 20s if possible. Perhaps the kind of player Hetinger SHOULD be ?

FWIW, the reports of Landon thinking of retiring soon, losing his passion, etc., are GREATLY EXAGGERATED. The latest interview he gave was provacatively and sensationally edited for greatest effect. He still has passion for the game, still loves the game, wants to play in WC 2014, is probably looking to leave LA sooner rather than later (though he does love it), just needs a small vacation to heal from his injuries this year.

Back to the weird arguing - and occasional ****ging of Americans yet again.

 Hardly...

I agree with the rest though; I don't think he wants to retire just yet and talent-wise, still has plenty left to offer.

I'd have him permanently or on loan if that were not possible. Put him onto the right wing, Pienaar/Mirallas switching between the left and centre, drop Fellaini back into CM.
