That's why I'd go for Dempsey myself.

I reckon we'll see a massive jump over the next ten years. Think we're well positioned to take advantage of it too.

Dooley and Wagner played for Schalke when they were half decent. Wegerle played for Chelsea just before they became half decent. Jones, Reyna, Moore, Preki and McBride hung around in europe without ever leaving midtable.

Friedel and Keller kind of hung around europa league teams at least, and beasley, edu and bocanegra even played some champions league in scotland and holland.

Howard at least nailed down a starting position at Man U. And if you go back to the 30s and 50s they had some british born players like Brown, Moorhouse and Baker who did some decent stuff in the english game. Springthorpe and Sturgiss both won FA cups.

But they've never had a champions league winner or a winner of one of the big european leagues. Dempsey I think was the first american to even play in a european final and that was off the bench, and he lost. You really have to go with the current generation of Bradley, Holden, Dempsey and Donovan as their finest ever but it's not exactly the best of a great bunch.

Jovan Kirovski has a Champion's League medal from his time with Dortmund. I think he even played in the final (or was a contributor to the team). Right now, as said above, Bradley is playing regularly with Roma, Dempsey with Tottenham, Jones with Schalke. The bulk of the starting 11 for the US start regularly in the Bundesliga or Premiership, with a smattering across Europe and a few from MLS. Respectable without being eye-catching.

Yeah come on newjerseyligernewjersey, this should be good.
For the record, while I hold nothing against the great people of the garden state, it's newjapanligernewjapan.

USMNT. UnitedStatesMensNationalTeam. Thats gotta be an acronym surely?
Initialism. http://www.lyberty.com/encyc/articles/abbr.html

I did typo "pedant" though so if people want to claim it was a typo I will have no choice but to accept that.

No idea why people don't like this thread. It should probably be moved from the Everton forum though as we are all slightly off-topic. Sorry. I'll stop now.

See I thought this would be the most interesting post in this thread. I had no idea about any of that.

So it's only an acronym if you pronouce it as one word?

Yeah. Normally i'd be all embarrased and pee'd off with njligernj for making me look wrong.

But he posted a pic of Jushin "Thunder" Liger so he's awesome (y)

LA down 1 goal on the road to San Jose tonight. Could be knocked out of playoffs tonight. Hope they are and LD gets a long break and comes on a perm in January.
