So I've been promoted to a management position

I feel like a fat 60 year old after this week 😂
No not an emergency responder, although that may be easier 😂, I manage a hostel for young homeless adults 16-24 year olds .. if I had my way this week they’d all be bloody homeless again 😂😂
And then you spend your weekend watching Everton turn out another horrific display of pure football sh.te?!?

Christ lad, either you're a sucker for punishment, or you have the patience of a saint!

And no, that's not a sexual position and yeah, I can't quite understand how either but I've got to manage a load of people who are at least 1.5 times my age.

I work in the public sector, they're thoroughly decent people so I doubt they'll be voting Tory, so no need to put them all on immediate performance reviews.

What's the best way to prepare myself for this experience, any books or YouTube videos people recommend on leadership?
6 things you have to do when you get promoted to a senior level - I learnt from an early management 12 month course exam on a NEBSS examination course the basics were from the leader of the ten SAS John Adair -
In your working day -
1 Plan
2- Organise
3 - Motivate
4- Control
5- Build a team by example -
6- Communication - the most important thing - oral - written - & if a member of your staff is doing things wrong or brilliantly communicate in a nice private way - not in front of other employees ...

Also, A professor, Macgregor from the USA - wrote two theories on management -

Theory X - treat everybody you are in charge of is a lazy person who will skive behind your back -

Theory Y - treat everybody in time as a hard-working person & build a team ... by working hard yourself -

I chose Y - never let me down & I had older employees to deal with - treat an old person like you would a younger person under your control & on those simple rules - you will not go that wrong

It would seem that the employees of the horticultural department in Jersey, were immune from your management skills Joey ?

Mate, I’ve been on call since last Monday morning, I have 10 minutes left before I hand over the poisoned chalice to someone else, I have been called at home numerous times every night this week with times ranging from 6pm through to 2.40am , I’ve had :-
1 person with 4 overdose attempts (now in hospital)
1 person with 2 overdose attempts, 1 of them very serious (now in hospital)
1 person very seriously ill after a week on ketamine and cocaine, now on a drip in hospital
1 resident boasting of owning a gun and samurai sword and making threats to shoot the staff … now dealt with by the police after waiting 28 hours for them to turn up
2 under 18,s not returning to the projects so having to be reported to the police as missing
2 sickness absences so having to ring around to arrange shift cover.

It’s my 49th birthday today and tonight I’m going to the local pub, ordering a pint and I’m just going to sit there, staring at it and smiling, because I can 😂

Happy Birthday Kurt and enjoy your beer tonight, if anyone deserves a decent pint or four, it’s you…..
