We have had a season of unfortunate injuries (didn't they say that about RM's Wigan last season). Jags, Distin, Peinaar, Gibson, Mirallas (today), Kone, Oviedo. That is a long list of good players missing that in other seasons would have seen us struggle. Just shows how high our expectations have risen under RM. We have done excellent this season despite the injuries but it would of been nice to see Barry given the odd game rest as he did look totally spent today.

Because we've had a very decent season shouldn't prevent comment on that today. It was a mess. As the manager implied, the early goal conceded affected them. That shows how much work he has to do pre-season to get a certain mentality into them. He's got them playing football this season. Hats off. But he now needs to get a grip of the character of this team. There's not many there willing to be counted when they're tasked with pushing on and pressing an advantage home in a big game. It's definitely a hangover from the Moyes period and one that's going to prove much more difficult to eradicate than the style of football Moyes adopted.

We need three points to guarantee 5th and group stages of Europa and I think we'll get that against City.

The players will be in a similar mind set to United as they had lost to Palace the game before, like they have to Soton.

It's also the last home game of the season, we need a good atmosphere!

agree, be typical to go and beat city after losing to Southampton tbh, btw I'm blaming your pink top for the loss today!

We sabotaged ourselves. All of Southampton's best chances came from our mistakes. On another day Lukaku would've buried one his chances and the game would've turned around, instead our players just retreated inside themselves rather than pushing to correct their mistakes. In this game I though the experienced players let the team down. The older players should've been the ones rallying the team and taking charge of the game. Instead it was Stones and McCarthy.

As for the own goals, the only one I would criticize would be Coleman, he had the time to put ball anywhere and it ended up in the goal. For Alcaraz he didn't really have a choice, he had to go for it. Howard couldn't go for the ball and there was a player right behind him. Around the 80th minute if I were Martinez I would've just given one of the youngster's, either Ledson or Garbutt, their debut. If a goal was going to come from us it wasn't coming from any of the senior players.

That said did anyone notice any Emiratis hanging out around Finch Farm this week? Some of the individual performances kind of make me question the integrity of the players.

So frustrated that we will only finish 5th or 6th giving how refreshing Martinez and the team have been this year, i find it very hard to be negative giving we have a record points haul, but 4th place hasn't been lost due to our defeats, it has been lost due to dropping 4 points against West Brom 5 against Palace and them awful draws against Cardiff and Norwich in August.

Whatever happens between now and August 31st Martinez needs to find 2 players that between them can fire 30+ goals. Our neighbours have proved that strikers win games, defensively we are sound for years to come.Is Lukaku the answer?? 20m on today's evidence seems steep but we need another top striker to go with him.

50m net spend this summer BILL

Think we just need a striker that can do a similar job occupying the defence mate (assuming we can buy Lukaku this summer), not necessarily a big money signing just a talented loan player or experienced veteran like, and get in a goalscoring midfielder who can bang in 10+, honestly think if Kone had stayed fit we'd be in 4th now as Lukaku would have been kept fresh and he would have chipped in a few times himself
