I cannot see any reason why the same commitment won't be there on Saturday as the team have had a full weeks recovery from the Leeds game.
The game against the Skunks should not be used as a template for gloom and doom. To lose the only (let that fact sink in for a while) left back in our squad so close to the kick off time is difficult to contend with. Andros Townsend became the sacrificial lamb and was required to fill in as it were. That is the equivalent of asking a plumber to do a dentists job. One player down, and one player completely out of position. A very difficult situation exacerbated by arguably the two stand out players in their positions being withdrawn injured within 30 minutes. A difficult task now becomes almost impossible. For any team.
Can't ignore that performance or result, but let's put thing into perspective and not be overly negative. I feel we can be plenty confident from the positives over the past couple of weeks and get the minimum of a draw at the weekend.
Gray was a big loss in that Newcastle game, Mina was a waste of space for the thirty two minutes he was on the field, I was glad to see him go off.

Can't argue against that, but a defence totally disrupted shortly before kick off could affect the entire defence.
Yes Yeri was seriously grim, but how fit (??????) was he before the game, and how much did an unbalanced defence have upon him? I will not blame Townsend as he had a thankless job to do, and unsurprisingly, he couldn't do it.
A couple of days to prepare after the excellent Cup game was thrown into the bin by the Covid problem. A hasty re-group, a hasty reform of ideas and tactics, and all the aforementioned prep became meaningless.
I too wasn't dismayed to see Yeri limp off (though I hate it when our players are injured), but in truth, Everton were in problems before a ball was kicked, and as soon as Gray had to go off, the game was almost over.
Apart from Citee who have exceptional players and back-up players for every position, those circumstances would have rocked any other team.
So, I am in full agreement of your post, but I do think mitigating factors might just have a bearing upon the outcome.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, so let us go forth in harmony and be positive a good outcome of the Soton game is well within our capabilities.

Yes I agree with you the two injuries disrupted the game plan and the use of substitutions later on had a bearing on the game, some of the truth was mistakes were a big part of the defeat and the way we went to pieces after Newcatle equalised was hard to stomach, we recovered well for the Leeds game and the team gave us a lot of joy on the day, hopefully we will get stronger physically and tougher mentally the more Lampard and his coaching staff spend time with them along with some players coming back from injury making the squad better all round.

Can we put in two impressive performances back to back? We play as well as we did against Brentford and Leeds, then we'll win.

But will the Everton against Brentford or Leeds show up, or will the bad Everton make an appearance again?lol

Hoping for a win but expect more of a draw or defeat because Southampton have been superb recently, last 3 PL games drawn with Man City, beat Spurs and drawn with Utd. We`ve been turgid away from home this season and even in Franks 1st away game we were dispatched fairly easily at Newcastle. I hope he has learnt a lot from that..... but our form away has to change at some point though, doesn`t it?

COYB`s, this is the game we turn it around! Hopefully........

Very tough game for us as we always seem to find it difficult to get a result. Will Lampard insist on a pressing game or will he play deeper? The times I've watched them on MOTD they seem to score quite a few goals on the break. If we press it will have to be very good. But we played well pressing against Leeds and ruffled their feathers so maybe we can do the same away from home on Saturday.

90 mph winds expected from 8 to 11 am and then near 70 mph until 18:00, is the game even going on?
Very much wind!
