Just seen the Kane injury again - looks like the serious one comes from him trying to pull off his trademark move on Jordan Henderson; he glances, expects Henderson to jump for the ball and falls into him trying to win his trademark free / pen

Maybe im wrong & hope the injury isn't too serious and he recovers quickly, but pleased the inevitable injury from this style of tackle was to him and not someone he was endangering

Matips sounds serious. The fact they are now looking to get someone in tells you that. I think Matips done really. Apparently only completed 1 back to back 90 inthe league in 3-4 years, and that was with a 2 week break. I'll say it till I'm blue in the face, they've rushed him back and you just get other problems. I'd be surprised if he plays this season, and it will only be Klopps stupidity that means he might.

As for Kane, I dobt Mourinho comes on TV and overplays the injury to spark a crisis of confidence from fans and team. Apparently he's been invovled in 70% of their goals. Thats enormous. The fact he's done both ankles too, means he may be in a wheelchair for a period. Again it only takes one to be a bit more serious and wham, it's a 3 month job in all likelihood. Like with Matip complicating factor is, he's becoming increasingly injury prone now is Kane. His lack of mobility really shows.

Looking at Kane he looks to have had 4 ankle injuries (and 5 ligament injuries) i the last 4 years. Ranging from 21 days to 50 days out (so three to 7 weeks). Given it's a recurrence, that there is now a fair bit of weakness in there, and that there is 2 at once, cautiously you have to be looking at the longer time frame. Then he has to get match fit on top of that. I think they'll be doing very well to get him back before April. Means he makes the final 8-9 games of the season.

As for Matip, I've just seen Liverpool have him under contract for another 3.5 years. Thats hilarious.

If the RS dont get another CB in then i think they'll struggle to finish top 4 (obviously).

West Ham
Brighton
City
Leicester
*Leipzig
US

Thats no cakewalk :)

If Kane is out for a month then they will face these teams without him:

Brighton
Chelsea
West Brom
*US
City
*Wolfsberg
West Ham
*Wolfsberg
Burnley

That is really a nightmare set of games as theyre thick and fast. Could see them picking up more injuries on the way there.

Going to be an interesting 4 weeks :)

Indeed - the other point is it seems like every team in the top 8 or 9 are playing a few games against those around them, there will be alot of points dropped

I think at this point you can see the Mourinho meltdown looming. If they miss top 4 and don't win anything (or even if they just win the League Cup) it'll probably be viewed as disappointing. Son and Kane especially are probably going to be less happy with this defensive setup if it isn't bringing the results. So by next year the pressure will be on. A couple bad results early doors and it'll be on.

@number4. Just to answer you and Zat on the same post.

I make you right. That Phillips is ok as a stopper, against a "top" team, but their issue is how quickly and accurately he can distribute the ball against poorer teams. The fixtures above are tough, but a little like us, they will probably fair better against tougher teams (for different reasons to us).

The concern for them, is against poorer teams, they all look like they can have some joy against Liverpool. The subtlelty of Firmino's game is lost, there is no space for Salah to move into etc. Also they are drilled to defend for 90 minutes.

Spurs was the perfect game for them last week, and I have to say Chelsea the week after will likely be much the same. There's not enough bite, patience or discipline.

Look at the 3 goals they score yesterday. They don't score any of those goals against Burnley. Jermaine Jenas was correct, they were horrendous goals to lose. In a lot of ways, worse than the goal we conceded. That is a handling error. That can happen (though it happens too often with Pickford). In 2 of the 3 goals, they have opted not to clear a ball as presumably they don't want to concede a corner. Lloris is much the same. Burnley clear the ball, and defend the corner.

For Jose Mourinho, who prides himself on making sides hard to beat, and who is tactically astute, to stick a side out to play like that is appalling. Forget Kane going off, they defeated themselves. He is going to die on the hill of Eric Dier at Centre back as well.

As for Liverpool, they were always going to win, and I'm sure some will use it as the excuse of "it's all ok now". Lets see how they follow up the win and see if they can string 3 or 4 together.

The funny thing about the RS is the law of averages worked itself out in immaculately short order. They were never going to be as good at finishing as they were against Palace in that 7-0 and that immediately came true as they didn't score for 5 games. And yes they weren't the peak RS in terms of attacking in those 5 but I don't think they were not scoring a single time bad.

For Spurs the cracks are starting to show. They win something this year or Jose probably goes next term sometime without winning anything.

Since that Arsenal game it's 9 points from 8 games for them. They will look at that run and see that as the point this season became derailed. I always think 6+ games and it is away from a small number of games into something more generalisable. Had they have picked up 16 poitns from 8, they'd be 2nd now.

I always look at runs, and think coud the afford to repeat it? For me, probably not. Another 9 from 8 and they will be around half way up the league. Without Kane it's going to be a lot harder for them.

Spurs looking poor here, are they getting there blip out of the way before they play us I wonder.

no - their hearts are gone. Too many eggs in the "we rely on Harry" basket for me. When the manager keeps saying it, it becomes a lovely excuse for a bit of laziness. They will have a tough run of results I think.

If Kane has anything about him he should deffo push hard for a move to United in the summer.
Will be remembered as just another Alan Shearer otherwise. Great goal scorer who stayed at a club winning nothing.
